Cigarette Smoke-Induced Transcriptomic Alterations and Angiogenesis in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: An Integrative Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Biomedical Sciences
Background & Objectives: Cigarette smoke is a major risk factor for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and plays a pivotal role in tumor initiation and angiogenesis.

Platelet Factor 4: A Novel Therapeutic Inhibitor for Experimental Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience-Landmark
Background: Platelet factor 4 (PF4/CXCL4) is a chemokine with reported anti-angiogenic and immunomodulatory properties; however, the role of PF4 in neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) remains unclear.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Decoding Temporal Bone Carcinoma: The Role of CT and MRI in Precision Staging

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Primary squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the temporal bone is an extremely rare malignancy, comprising only 0.2% of head and neck cancers. There is currently no universally accepted staging system for these tumors. This study evaluates the utility of the

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...
