Information, fidelity, and reversibility in general quantum measurements [PDF]

open access: yesPhys.Rev. A93 (2016) 022104, 2015
We present the amounts of information, fidelity, and reversibility obtained by arbitrary quantum measurements on completely unknown states. These quantities are expressed as functions of the singular values of a measurement operator corresponding to the obtained outcome.

Patient-Reported Outcome Measures in Cancer Care

open access: yesJAMA Network Open
Key Points Question How does the integration of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) affect outcomes of cancer care? Findings In this update to a systematic review and meta-analysis of 45 randomized clinical trials examining the use of PROMs for ...

Patient-reported outcomes and patient-reported outcome measures in interstitial lung disease: Where to go from here? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), tools to assess patient self-report of health status, are now increasingly used in research, care and policymaking.

Patient-reported outcome measures in oncology: a qualitative study of the healthcare professional’s perspective

open access: yesSupportive Care in Cancer, 2021
In the last decades, the number of cancer survivors has increased significantly due to improved treatment and better detection of recurrence. This increased survival redirects the scope from survival towards optimising functional outcomes and improving ...

The immunological interface: dendritic cells as key regulators in metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) affects nearly one‐third of the global population and poses a significant risk of progression to cirrhosis or liver cancer. Here, we discuss the roles of hepatic dendritic cell subtypes in MASLD, highlighting their distinct contributions to disease initiation and progression, and their ...

The facilitators and barriers to implementing patient reported outcome measures in organisations delivering health related services: a systematic review of reviews

open access: yesJournal of Patient-Reported Outcomes, 2018
BackgroundThere is increasing interest in using Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) within organisations delivering health related services. However, organisations have had mixed success in implementing PROMs and there is little understanding about

Taurine promotes glucagon‐like peptide‐1 secretion in enteroendocrine L cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Taurine, a sulfur‐containing amino acid, is likely taken up by enteroendocrine L cells via the taurine transporter. This process increases the levels of cytosolic ATP. The increase in intracellular Ca2+ concentrations and glucagon‐like peptide‐1 secretion through membrane depolarization is caused by the closure of ATP‐sensitive potassium channels ...

Making tau amyloid models in vitro: a crucial and underestimated challenge

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review highlights the challenges of producing in vitro amyloid assemblies of the tau protein. We review how accurately the existing protocols mimic tau deposits found in the brain of patients affected with tauopathies. We discuss the important properties that should be considered when forming amyloids and the benchmarks that should be used to ...

The survival-incorporated median versus the median in the survivors or in the always-survivors: What are we measuring? And why? [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Many clinical studies evaluate the benefit of a treatment based on both survival and other continuous/ordinal clinical outcomes, such as Quality of Life scores. In these studies, when subjects die before the follow-up assessment, the clinical outcomes become undefined and are truncated by death. Treating outcomes as "missing" or "censored" due to death
