Geriatric-patient flow-rate modelling

Mathematical Medicine and Biology, 1996
We consider the application of a three-compartment mathematical model using difference equations in discrete time to model the flow of patients through departments of geriatric medicine. It has been shown empirically that the time spent in hospital since admission may be described by a two-term mixed-exponential distribution.

Patient flow for the management of ostomy patients

Minerva Chirurgica, 2020
Subjects undergoing ostomy are increasing and share a reduced quality of life. The patient flow (PF) is the pathway of a patient from hospital admission to discharge and should provide care appropriateness to the patient himself. In the recent literature no paper exists regarding the PF of the patient undergoing (intestinal or urinary) ostomy, which is

Patient-ventilator flow dyssynchrony

Critical Care Medicine, 1997
Patient-ventilator flow dyssynchrony occurs when ventilator flow delivery is insufficient to meet patient demands. If sufficiently severe, flow dyssynchrony can produce significant imposed loads on ventilatory muscles. Flow dyssynchrony can be improved by increasing ventilator flow delivery.

Involuntary Patient Flow

Evaluation Review, 1980
A computer program was written which modeled the stages through which involuntarily admitted psychiatric patients passed following commitment. Using empirically derived base rates the program was run to determine the impact on a psychiatric ward of (a) different proportions of voluntary and involuntary admissions to the ward and (b) different rates of

Understanding Preprocedure Patient Flow in IR

Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, 2016
To quantify preprocedural patient flow in interventional radiology (IR) and to identify potential contributors to preprocedural delays. An administrative dataset was used to compute time intervals required for various preprocedural patient-flow processes.

Statecharts for Patient Flow

2012
In Chap.5, we discussed UML state diagrams as a means of describing the process of surgical care. This type of diagram is based on the Statecharts visual formalism developed by computer scientist David Harel. In this chapter, we first review the most important concepts of the formalism.

Forecasting the Emergency Department Patients Flow

Journal of Medical Systems, 2016
Emergency department (ED) have become the patient's main point of entrance in modern hospitals causing it frequent overcrowding, thus hospital managers are increasingly paying attention to the ED in order to provide better quality service for patients. One of the key elements for a good management strategy is demand forecasting.

Patient flow to carotid endarterectomy: hastening the patient journey

ANZ Journal of Surgery, 2010
AbstractBackground:  Early carotid endarterectomy (CEA) after stroke or transient ischaemic attack is the proposed standard of care to prevent recurrent ischaemic events in selected patients. The aim of this study was to investigate if this standard is achieved in a tertiary vascular unit. Methods:  This was a clinical audit.

Speeding up patient flow in rehabilitation

BMJ, 2015
Wise’s recent news article made the important point that barriers to the discharge of patients from elsewhere in the hospital can contribute to problems with emergency department access.1 This important problem has received scant attention in most discussions and publications on this topic.
