Patient Electrode Isolation Adapter
IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, 1971Safety has rapidly become a major issue in the hospital environment. Electronic equipment, particularly monitoring apparatus, has modernized clinical procedures, but constitutes a potential danger to patients. A simple isolation adapter is described which can eliminate the shock hazards of existing equipment by breaking the electrical connection ...

Effects of isolation on patients and staff
American Journal of Infection Control, 2015A matched case-control study and a qualitative investigation were used to identify adverse events in diverse dimensions associated with isolation. Overall satisfaction with care was similar among patients in isolation, but staff was found to be less responsive. Isolation was also associated with depression, but not with increased anxiety.

Isolate the infection, not the patient
AORN Journal, 1978Management of sepsis following surgery is a major concern in the care of the surgical patient. The body's own defense mechanisms respond by isolating invading microorganisms, sending white cells and globulins into the front lines to wall off the invaders, attempting to extrude them from the body.

The patient presenting with isolated hyperbilirubinemia
Digestive and Liver Disease, 2009Hyperbilirubinemia is a common laboratory finding in clinical practice, being found in several haematological and liver diseases as well as in familial conditions (5-10% in Western countries). Although most of the familial forms of hyperbilirubinemia are classically viewed as benign conditions, they have gained an increased interest in the last few ...

Patient isolation for infection control and patient experience
Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology, 2018AbstractObjectiveHospitalized patients placed in isolation due to a carrier state or infection with resistant or highly communicable organisms report higher rates of anxiety and loneliness and have fewer physician encounters, room entries, and vital sign records.

Lipoproteins in Patients with Isolated Hyperuricemia
1998There have been described abnormalities in the lipoprotein profile of hyperuricemic patients, it has not been clarified wether these abnormalities are due to the hyperuricemia or to the dyslipema often associated to these patients. Our aim is to study the apolipoprotein profile in hyperuricemic patients without dyslipemia compared to a control ...

Air Curtains for Patient Isolation
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1969A unique reverse isolation unit with ultrafilters and protective curtains of air provides an ideal environment for patients whose illness or therapy or both leave them especially infection-prone. Preliminary studies indicate that the enclosure is 97% to 99% effective in protecting the patient from contamination.

Isolation of the Infected Patient
1985The practice of isolating patients with dangerous diseases is probably as old as Homo sapiens even if the learned medical profession did not accept the “germ theory of disease” before the nineteenth century and with it the possibility that one person might infect another. Certainly, ordinary people had no doubts, at least in respect to certain diseases
