Multitask Deep Learning for Cost-Effective Prediction of Patient's Length of Stay and Readmission State Using Multimodal Physical Activity Sensory Data

IEEE journal of biomedical and health informatics, 2022
In a hospital, accurate and rapid mortality prediction of Length of Stay (LOS) is essential since it is one of the essential measures in treating patients with severe diseases.

Nonelective readmissions of medical patients

Journal of Chronic Diseases, 1985
Because it is difficult to predict the course of patients discharged from the hospital, we studied 1646 consecutive patients discharged from the medicine service to the care of the hospital's medical staff. Conditions serious enough to warrant urgent or emergent (nonelective) readmissions developed in 278 (16.9%) within 90 days.

Hospital Readmissions from Patients’ Perspectives

Southern Medical Journal, 2017
Healthcare expenditures in the United States have increased exponentially and hospital care accounts for one-third of these costs. Approximately 18% of hospitalized Medicare beneficiaries are being readmitted to the hospital within 30 days. Engaging patients in the discharge process can help better identify patients' postdischarge needs and implement ...

Readmissions in COPD: The perspective of the patient

1.12 Clinical Problems - COPD, 2016
Introduction: Readmissions in COPD occur in up to 40 % within a year and consequently cause substantial personal and economic burden. To our knowledge no information exists on the perspective of the patient on this matter. Aims: This observational pilot study aimed to identify factors that are associated with a preventable readmission from the ...

Patient Ambulations Predict Hospital Readmission

2021 43rd Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society (EMBC), 2021
Improved functional ability and physical activity are strongly associated with a broad range of positive health outcomes including reduced risk of hospital readmission. This study presents an algorithm for detecting ambulations from time-resolved step counts gathered from remote monitoring of patients receiving hospital care in their homes. It examines

Hospital Readmission of Patients with Diabetes

Current Diabetes Reports, 2015
Hospital readmission is a high-priority health care quality measure and target for cost reduction. Despite broad interest in readmission, relatively little research has focused on patients with diabetes. The burden of diabetes among hospitalized patients, however, is substantial, growing, and costly, and readmissions contribute a significant portion of
