Low‐dose hilar and mediastinal stereotactic body radiation therapy for non‐small cell lung cancer: Analysis of outcomes in patients receiving one or multiple courses of treatment

open access: yesThoracic Cancer, 2020
Background This study reports the outcomes of a single institutional experience treating non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) involving the pulmonary hilum with low‐dose stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT).

Assessment of mechanical dyssynchrony can improve the prognostic value of guideline-based patient selection for cardiac resynchronization therapy

open access: yesEuropean Heart Journal-Cardiovascular Imaging, 2019
Aim To determine if incorporation of assessment of mechanical dyssynchrony could improve the prognostic value of patient selection based on current guidelines. Methods and results Echocardiography was performed in 1060 patients before and 12 ± 6 months

Insights into PI3K/AKT signaling in B cell development and chronic lymphocytic leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Review explores how the phosphoinositide 3‐kinase and protein kinase B pathway shapes B cell development and drives chronic lymphocytic leukemia, a common blood cancer. It examines how signaling levels affect disease progression, addresses treatment challenges, and introduces novel experimental strategies to improve therapies and patient outcomes.

Patient-Specific Game-Based Transfer Method for Parkinson's Disease Severity Prediction [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Dysphonia is one of the early symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD). Most existing methods use feature selection methods to find the optimal subset of voice features for all PD patients. Few have considered the heterogeneity between patients, which implies the need to provide specific prediction models for different patients.

Limits to Patient Selection [PDF]

open access: yesAMA Journal of Ethics, 2011
Patients can use Internet sources to select physicians; physicians who use patient databases to select or reject patients, however, cross a professional-ethical boundary. Virtual Mentor is a monthly bioethics journal published by the American Medical Association.

Surgical patient selection and counseling [PDF]

open access: yesTranslational Andrology and Urology, 2017
The objectives of patient selection and counseling are ultimately to enhance successful outcomes. However, the definition for success is often narrowly defined in published literature (ability to complete surgery, complications, satisfaction) and fails to account for patient desires and expectations, temporal changes, natural history of underlying ...

A Novel Machine Learning Model Developed to Assist in Patient Selection for Outpatient Total Shoulder Arthroplasty.

open access: yesJournal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, 2019
INTRODUCTION Patient selection for outpatient total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) is important to optimizing patient outcomes. This study aims to develop a machine learning tool that may aid in patient selection for outpatient total should arthroplasty ...

Ablation of LRP6 in alpha‐smooth muscle actin‐expressing cells abrogates lung inflammation and fibrosis upon bleomycin‐induced lung injury

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 6 (LRP6) is a key receptor for the Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1). DKK1 protein expression is induced in a bleomycin (BLM)‐induced lung injury model. We show that DKK1 induces proinflammatory and profibrotic genes in lung fibroblasts.

Smoking prevalence in Covid-19 patients [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
We investigate the prevalence rate of smoking in Covid-19 patients and examine whether there is a difference in the distribution of smokers between the two statistical populations of critically ill patients with Covid-19 and the entire Iranian population or not.

Patient selection for trials [PDF]

open access: yesMultiple Sclerosis Journal, 2017
The last several decades have witnessed considerable progress in our understanding of the pathogenesis, refining diagnostic criteria, and identifying therapies of value for modifying the course of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis. While the pace of progress has lagged for those with progressive phase disease, this now seems to be changing.
