Beauveria bassiana increased plasmatocytes and reduced granulocytes, whereas Metarhizium robertsii did not cause significant changes. On histological evaluation of the fetal lungs, abundant neutrophils infiltrated the alveolar spaces, bronchi and bronchioles with intralesional Gram‐negative bacteria, immunolabelled with Escherichia coli immunohistochemistry.
