The Making of Forum Ware: A High‐Resolution Archaeometric Study of Early Medieval Glazed Pottery From the Templum Pacis (Imperial Forum, Rome)

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The object of this study consists of an archaeometric investigation of Early medieval Forum Ware glazed ceramics found in the central archaeological area of Rome, a significant chronological and economic marker for 8th–11th centuries. Instrumental analysis included digital microscopy, ESEM‐EDS imaging, EDS spectral analysis, EMPA quantitative ...

The obsolescence of protected area categories in a polycrisis world

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Current global conservation models face significant limitations in addressing the global polycrisis, and the constraints of the International Union for Conservation of Nature protected area (PA) classification system are part of the issue. The principles of the new conservation paradigm—governance, equity, and interculturality—are not viable ...

Impact of climate on the migration phenology of the endangered Little Bustard in Spain

open access: yesIbis, EarlyView.
The phenology of animals is closely tied to seasonal climatic patterns so, by altering temperature and precipitation regimes, climate change disrupts the phenological cycles of species. More specifically, the influence of rising temperatures on the phenology of bird migration has been long studied.

Computed tomography reveals multiple origins of extreme caudal vertebral pneumaticity in sauropod dinosaurs

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Here, we present novel CT scan data of caudal vertebrae of six Middle–Late Jurassic sauropods, representing several eusauropod lineages. We synthesise these new data with a comprehensive critical appraisal of purported external and internal evidence for caudal vertebral PSP in Sauropodomorpha.

A Journey Between Science and the Arts: Templates for the Depiction of the Pineapple (Sixteenth to Eighteenth Centuries)

open access: yesRenaissance Studies, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Native to America, the pineapple—Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.—delighted the Europeans who came across it. The fruit was mentioned by the voyagers and missionaries who observed and tasted it in the Americas and, from the 1500s onwards, infused reports, chronicles and natural history treatises with colour and flavour.

Isolation and Phylogenetic Analysis of Parapoxvirus orf From Outbreaks in Sheep in the Brazilian Midwest

open access: yesZoonoses and Public Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction This study aimed to isolate Parapoxvirus orf and characterize its genetic diversity through phylogenetic analysis in small ruminants from the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Methods A total of 103 scab samples were collected from sheep affected by nine contagious ecthyma outbreaks across three different mesoregions of Mato Grosso ...

An Integrated Metabolomics and Bioactivity Approach to Characterize Salvia heldreichiana and Salvia tomentosa Extracts

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2026.
S. heldreichiana and S. tomentosa can be considered as effective sources of natural bioactive agents for further in vivo pharmacological evaluation and development. The genus Salvia, widely known as sage, represents the largest group within the Lamiaceae family and includes numerous species with traditional uses.

Typification of Caesalpinia desertorum and its nomenclatural priority over Caesalpinia bracteosa (Leguminosae, Caesalpinioideae)

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 75, Issue 5, October 2026.
Abstract Caesalpinia desertorum was not properly typified and has long remained of uncertain taxonomic position. A critical reassessment of the original material cited in the protologue, together with historical herbarium collections and associated literature, allows us to designate a lectotype and clarify its identity.

Moringa oleifera Lam. Seed Lectin (WSMoL) Attenuates Parkinsonian Symptoms in Mice via Anti‐Inflammatory, Antioxidant, and Neurotransmitter‐Modulating Effects

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 9, September 2026.
WSMoL attenuates motor impairment, neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and monoamine depletion in a rotenone‐induced model of Parkinson's disease. The involvement of D1 receptor‐mediated signaling is demonstrated, providing new insights into the mechanisms underlying its neuroprotective effects and supporting WSMoL as a promising candidate for further

Total Phenolic Content, Antioxidant and Cytotoxic Activity of Three Jacaranda Species (Bignoniaceae)

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 9, September 2026.
Jacaranda species (Bignoniaceae) collected in the Serra do Espinhaço—Brazil's only mountain range and home to one of the planet's highest levels of biodiversity—exhibit interesting antioxidant activities and superior selectivity toward the acute monocytic leukemia cell line (THP‐1) when compared to the standard drug cytarabine.
