Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Coat-frock with waistcoat, 1919

open access: yes, 1919
Pattern No. 4780: Waistcoat is trimmed along the edges with braid and down the center with a row of small buttons. Lower edge of the collared, belted blouse "turns up to form a deep cuff which is held in place at the center back with three buttons." Bell-

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Misses' coat-frock with sleeveless underblouse, 1919

open access: yes, 1919
Pattern No. 4758: Underblouse with a shallow "modesty" trimmed with "narrow ruffles of organdie." Neckline and hem of blouse are trimmed with contrasting material. Narrow-collared waistcoat is finished along the back seams with buttons.

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Frock with set-in side sections, 1920

open access: yes, 1920
Pattern No. 4691: Shirtwaist with bias-cut sleeves, frilling at the neckline, and set-in sections that are "cut sufficiently long to turn up, forming pockets with the skirt at either side." Belt is tied at the center back, and shirtwaist and skirt are ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Decoding the dynamic extracellular matrix in cancer—3D models and bioscaffolds rewire the rules of tumor progression

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cancer progression is regulated by the dynamic matrix code of the tumor microenvironment, which influences cellular behavior and disease development. Importantly, matrix remodeling in three‐dimensional cancer models more accurately reflects in vivo conditions compared to conventional two‐dimensional systems.

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

Graph neural network and machine learning analysis of functional neuroimaging for understanding schizophrenia

open access: yesBMC Neuroscience
Background Graph representational learning can detect topological patterns by leveraging both the network structure as well as nodal features. The basis of our exploration involves the application of graph neural network architectures and machine ...
