Generating flat patterns for folded structures: Search space reduction

Packaging Technology and Science, 2017
A significant number of packaging products can be represented as folded structures. This contribution demonstrates an approach for generating a set of feasible flat patterns based upon a graph representation of the folded structures. It presents algorithms to detect several typical design features.

Real Space Structure and Scattering Patterns of Model Polymer Nanocomposites

Macromolecules, 2007
Microscopic polymer liquid state theory is employed to study the real space pair correlation functions and collective scattering structure factors of melt polymer nanocomposites composed of hard spheres and adsorbing homopolymers over length scales ranging from monomeric to macroscopic.

Feature Space Transfer for Data Augmentation

2018 IEEE/CVF Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2018
The problem of data augmentation in feature space is considered. A new architecture, denoted the FeATure TransfEr Network (FATTEN), is proposed for the modeling of feature trajectories induced by variations of object pose.

Analysing highly complex and highly structured point patterns in space

Spatial Statistics, 2017
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to discuss two recently introduced approaches that focus on structures of different events that occur randomly in space: spatial dependence graph models (SDGMs), and network intensity functions. While SDGMs are undirected graphical models which capture the conditional independence structure between components of ...

Urban morphology and landscape structure effect on land surface temperature: Evidence from Shiraz, a semi-arid city

Sustainable cities and society, 2018
Urbanization process contributes to more urban climate changes, specifically the land surface temperature (LST). Higher LST of urban areas compared to the surroundings is regarded as the side effect of urban morphology and landscape structure features ...

Behavior Pattern Extraction Based on Growing Neural Networks for Informationally Structured Space

2015 IEEE Symposium Series on Computational Intelligence, 2015
In this paper, we focus on behavior pattern extraction using sensor networks and portable sensing system. Behavior analysis is one of the most important tasks, which provides suitable information service to users. This paper proposes a pattern extraction method based on growing neural networks. The learning system is composed of two modules for feature

Folding patterns of planar gossamer space structures consisting of membranes and booms

Acta Astronautica, 2014
Abstract The combination of large membranes and light-weight deployable booms, often called a gossamer structure, has enabled innovative space missions, such as solar sailing, to become possible. Though many designs have been proposed and demonstrated, two problems remain regarding the folding patterns of the membranes.

Composite pattern structured light projection for human computer interaction in space

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
Interacting with computer technology while wearing a space suit is difficult at best. We present a sensor that can interpret body gestures in 3-Dimensions. Having the depth dimension allows simple thresholding to isolate the hands as well as use their positioning and orientation as input controls to digital devices such as computers and/or robotic ...
