Super-Resolution Land Cover Pattern Prediction Using a Hopfield Neural Network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Landscape pattern represents a key variable in management and understanding of the environment, as well as driving many environmental models. Remote sensing can be used to provide information on the spatial pattern of land cover features, but analysis ...

The Application of Entropy in Motor Imagery Paradigms of Brain–Computer Interfaces

open access: yesBrain Sciences
Background: In motor imagery brain–computer interface (MI-BCI) research, electroencephalogram (EEG) signals are complex and nonlinear. This complexity and nonlinearity render signal processing and classification challenging when employing traditional ...

Decoding the dynamic extracellular matrix in cancer—3D models and bioscaffolds rewire the rules of tumor progression

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cancer progression is regulated by the dynamic matrix code of the tumor microenvironment, which influences cellular behavior and disease development. Importantly, matrix remodeling in three‐dimensional cancer models more accurately reflects in vivo conditions compared to conventional two‐dimensional systems.

Improving gaussian processes classification by spectral data reorganizing

open access: yes, 2008
We improve Gaussian processes (GP) classification by reorganizing the (non-stationary and anisotropic) data to better fit to the isotropic GP kernel. First, the data is partitioned into two parts: along the feature with the highest frequency bandwidth ...

Structure‐forward targeting of claudins with synthetic binders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Claudins form the paracellular barriers between epithelial and endothelial tissues at tight junctions and are targets for molecular binders with the goal of modulating barrier permeability. Claudin‐binding molecules are relevant in drug delivery or in altering claudin interactions with disease‐causing proteins.

Pattern classification with noisy features [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The paper addresses the problem of pattern classification when distortions are present in the observed data. These are distortions occurring either in the process of classifying a test pattern or during the learning phase of a classifier design. In particular we consider the case when the measurements are corrupted by noise.

Engineering peptides into antibodies—opportunities and strategies for therapeutic innovation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Peptides and antibodies occupy complementary therapeutic niches. Peptides recognize difficult targets in a compact format, while antibodies add specificity, long half‐life, and effector functions. This review examines strategies that merge both modalities—peptide grafting into loops, terminal and Fc fusions, and bioconjugation—highlighting how ...

Enhancing classification performance of multi-class imbalanced data using the OAA-DB algorithm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In data classification, the problem of imbalanced class distribution has attracted many attentions. Most efforts have used to investigate the problem mainly for binary classification.

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses
