Typicality, Diversity, and Feature Pattern of an Ensemble

IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1975
In this paper, issues concerning feature patterns in terms of both feature composition and feature interdependence are discussed, and the concepts of typicality and diversity of an ensemble are formulated. The features of the specimens investigated are organized in a two-dimensional array, called an observation matrix, with each row vector representing

Diversity gain pattern of dual antenna diversity selection

Proceedings of PIMRC '96 - 7th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Communications, 2002
This paper present the analysis results of antenna pattern of a dual antenna diversity system. The antennas are correlated because of limited spatial separation. The diversity gain is also affected by such factors as angle of arrival, distance between the transmitter and the receiver, and diversity combining techniques.

Patterns of diversity

1998
We have drawn attention to the stark contrasts that have existed on the European continent by comparing the communist East, or its legacy, with the capitalist West. In this chapter we shall compare political ideologies and economic systems, which also have a bearing on the question of whether there might be differences between countries in matters of ...

Diversity Patterns of Carabids in the Alps and the Apennines

2003
Carabid beetles are widespread in all terrestrial environments of the world and it is thought that they originated from the tropics (Erwin 1979). They have complex evolutionary pathways; taxon-specific cul-de-sacs have been found in tropical forest canopies, in the tundra and in the mountains, where carabids are an important part of the animal ...

Comment on “Patterns of Diversity in Marine Phytoplankton”

Science, 2010
Barton et al . (Reports, 19 March 2010, p. 1509) argued that stable conditions enable neutral coexistence of many phytoplankton species in the tropical oceans, whereas seasonal variation causes low biodiversity in subpolar oceans. However, their model prediction is not robust.

Diversity and Evolution of Caste Patterns

2000
Termite societies display a wide array of polymorphism patterns, rivalled only by the most complex ant societies. Caste differentiation in termites occurs when immatures of either sex deviate from the straight hemimetabolous pathway leading from the egg to the winged imago. Two kinds of irreversible deviations are found in primitive termites: one leads

Species-diversity and pattern-diversity in the study of ecological succession

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1966
Abstract A measurable property of any collection of organisms containing more than one species is its “species-diversity”. Methods of measuring species-diversity based on the information content of a collection are reviewed. A collection consisting of a community of sessile organisms, such as terrestrial plants, also has “pattern-diversity”.

Patterns of diversity in Cannabis

Genetic Resources and Crop Evolution, 1996
A Cannabis germplasm collection was evaluated for traits relevant to the use of hemp as an arable source of paper pulp. The traits were related to stem yield and quality, psychoactive potency, resistance to root-knot nematodes and plant morphology. The present study is directed at diversity for these traits considered together.
