Influence of the Structure of Seersucker Woven Fabrics on their Friction Properties
Friction is defined as a force resisting a relative motion between two bodies in contact. The friction of a fabric on itself or on another fabric influences significantly a fabric’s performance and user’s utility comfort, especially the so-called ...

The unreasonable effectiveness of pattern matching
We report on an astonishing ability of large language models (LLMs) to make sense of "Jabberwocky" language in which most or all content words have been randomly replaced by nonsense strings, e.g., translating "He dwushed a ghanc zawk" to "He dragged a spare chair".

ABSTRACT Background Type 1 plasminogen deficiency (PLGD‐1) is an ultra‐rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by variants in the PLG gene and affects approximately 1.6 individuals per million. The condition is characterized by decreased plasminogen levels and impaired function, resulting in fibrin‐rich lesions on mucous membranes throughout the body.

Coupled Climate Models Systematically Underestimate Radiation Response to Surface Warming
A realistic representation of top‐of‐the‐atmosphere (TOA) radiation response to surface warming is key for trusting climate model projections. We show that coupled models with freely evolving ocean‐atmosphere interactions systematically underestimate the

The late effects of fetal growth patterns [PDF]
The immediate prenatal and postnatal consequences of reduced fetal growth have long been known. The longer term associations between reduced birth weight and adult disease risk are also now well established. Reduced fetal growth is usually detected late in gestation, and the assumption has been that this is the time when factors regulating fetal growth

Understanding the Climate Response to Different Vertical Patterns of Radiative Forcing
The dependence of climate response on the vertical structure of radiative forcing is studied using a set of idealized experiments, with horizontally uniform and vertically confined forcings.

Mobile Phone and its Effect on Foetal Cardiotocography Pattern [PDF]
Introduction: Mobile phones have become a part and parcel of our every day’s life. As they operate by creating an electromagnetic field therefore, there are concerns for their safety while using in pregnancy.

Lateral effects in pattern vision
There is a large literature on lateral effects in pattern vision but no consensus about them or comprehensive model of them. This paper reviews the literature with a focus on the effects of parallel context in the central fovea. It describes seven experiments that measure detection and discrimination thresholds in annular and Gabor-pattern contexts at ...

Pattern glare: the effects of contrast and color [PDF]
To test a theory of visual stress by investigating the inter-relationships between (1) the threshold contrast/saturation at which individuals first report discomfort when viewing colored gratings of progressively increasing contrast and decreasing saturation; (2) the choice of a colored overlay for reading; (3) any increase in reading speed when the ...
