Chemical-mechanical polishing (CMP) is used in integrated circuit manufacturing to remove material from patterned wafer surfaces. The term “polishing” or “planarization” is used to describe two types of processes: 1) topography reduction of surface features that result from deposition, etch, or other thin-film processes, and 2) removal (“polish back ...

Beverage Effects on Patterns of Alcohol Consumption
Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, 1995In this paper an analysis is made of beverage preferences and their effect on alcohol consumption patterns. For this purpose we have used the 1993 Spanish National Household Health Survey conducted on members of the population aged 16 or over. Beer and spirits are consumed more frequently by young people and wine by older people.

Nonadiabatic effects in optical pattern formation
Physical Review A, 2001Summary form only given. Tuning instability leading to pattern formation in cavity nonlinear optics is generally described in terms of a tilted-wave mechanism that provides a simple geometric and linear picture of the fact that diffractive off-axis waves can fit the cavity resonance allowing maximum energy extraction from the medium.

The effects of complexity on the perception of vibrotactile patterns
Perception & Psychophysics, 1991Vibrotactile patterns were presented to subjects' left index fingerpads using the array from the Optacon. A set of simple (one-line) patterns and a set of complex (two-line) patterns were constructed so that they were equally identifiable when presented individually.

The Effect of Functional Appliances on the Skeletal Pattern
British Journal of Orthodontics, 1991The findings of some 26 papers covering the results of Andresen and Fränkel appliances, as analysed from cephalometric radiographs, are reviewed. These findings show a high degree of consistency. They have been combined to produce larger samples and compared with a control group produced from reports of untreated Class II division 1 individuals, with ...

Degradation of high power signals is observed at bitrates comparable to the gain recovery time in Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOA). The device studied here reduces this pattern effect of SOAs. It is a non-linear Mach-Zehnder interferometer with a SOA in each branch.
