Accommodation, Pattern Glare, and Coloured Overlays [PDF]

open access: yesPerception, 2012
We manipulated the accommodative response using positive and negative lenses to study any association between symptoms of pattern glare and accommodation.

The effect of viewing distance on responses to the pattern glare test [PDF]

open access: yesAustralasian journal of optometry, The, 2016
BACKGROUND: We investigated whether symptoms of pattern glare were affected by viewing distance, as distinct from spatial frequency, because of an association between symptoms and anomalies of accommodation and vergence.

Visual Stimuli Are Common Triggers of Migraine and Are Associated With Pattern Glare

open access: yesHeadache, 2006
Objective.—To investigate the associations between interictal pattern glare, visual stress, and visual triggers of migraine. Background.—There has been relatively little research on the visual stimuli that can trigger migraine episodes.

The Pattern Glare Test: a review and determination of normative values [PDF]

open access: yesOphthalmic and Physiological Optics, 2008
Abstract Pattern glare is characterised by symptoms of visual perceptual distortions and visual stress on viewing striped patterns. People with migraine or Meares–Irlen syndrome (visual stress) are especially prone to pattern glare. The literature on pattern glare is reviewed, and the goal of this study was to develop clinical norms ...

Study of Anti-Glare Pattern Forming Process by Glass Etching for Improved Image Quality

Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2021
In this paper, the anti-glare characteristics of strengthened glass used in the dashboard of automobiles were improved to enhanced the ability of the driver to read the display. To this end, the glass surface was etched with a solution containing HF as a main component.

Photo‐Rewritable Glaring Patterns Composed of Stripe Domains in Nematic Elastomers

Macromolecular Rapid Communications, 2022
AbstractDynamic ordered micropatterns in polymeric materials provide an effective approach for the on‐demand tuning of optical properties toward a smart optical material. In this study, it is shown that glaring patterns exhibiting strong anisotropic light diffusion can be developed at specific locations in nematic liquid‐crystal elastomers with light ...

Identifying Patterns of Key Factors in Sun Glare-Related Traffic Crashes

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2021
Sun glare is one of the major environmental issues contributing to traffic crashes. Every year, many traffic crashes in the United States are attributed to sun glare. However, quantitative analysis of the influence of sun glare on traffic crashes has not been widely undertaken.

Effect of Pattern Glare and Colored Overlays on a Simulated-Reading Task in Dyslexics and Normal Readers

Optometry and Vision Science, 1994
Scotopic sensitivity syndrome or the Irlen syndrome describes symptoms of asthenopia and anomalous visual performance experienced while reading that are lessened by colored filters. One putative explanation for this condition relates to pattern glare: a hypersensitivity to repetitive patterns, including lines of print on a page.
