Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.

Enhancing diffusion-weighted prostate MRI through self-supervised denoising and evaluation
Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) is a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique that provides information about the Brownian motion of water molecules within biological tissues. DWI plays a crucial role in stroke imaging and oncology, but its diagnostic

In-Line Hybrid Fiber Sensor for Curvature and Temperature Measurement
We proposed and demonstrated a compact inline optical fiber sensor for curvature and temperature measurement with low cross sensitivity. The device consists of a 5 mm long hollow-core fiber (HCF) spliced between two single-mode fibers. Two up-tapers were

Edge Detection for Pattern Recognition: A Survey [PDF]
This review provides an overview of the literature on the edge detection methods for pattern recognition that inspire from the understanding of human vision. We note that edge detection is one of the most fundamental process within the low level vision and provides the basis for the higher level visual intelligence in primates.

Ion channel function of polycystin‐2/polycystin‐1 heteromer revealed by structure‐guided mutagenesis
Mutations in polycystin‐1 (PC1) or polycystin‐2 (PC2) cause autosomal‐dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). We generated a novel gain‐of‐function PC2/PC1 heteromeric ion channel by mutating pore‐blocking residues. Moreover, we demonstrated that PC2 will preferentially assemble with PC1 to form heteromeric complexes when PC1 is co‐expressed ...

The Effect of Top-Down Attention in Occluded Object Recognition [PDF]
This study is concerned with the top-down visual processing benefit in the task of occluded object recognition. To this end, a psychophysical experiment is designed and carried out which aimed at investigating the effect of consistency of contextual information on the recognition of objects which are partially occluded.

Comparing Statistical Feature and Artificial Neural Networks for Control Chart Pattern Recognition: A Case Study [PDF]
Control chart has been widely used for monitoring production process, especially in evaluating the quality performance of a product. An uncontrolled process is usually known by recognizing its chart pattern, and then performing some actions to overcome

Decoding the dual role of autophagy in cancer through transcriptional and epigenetic regulation
Transcriptional and epigenetic regulation controls autophagy, which exerts context‐dependent effects on cancer: Autophagy suppresses tumorigenesis by maintaining cellular homeostasis or promotes tumor progression by supporting survival under stress. In this “In a Nutshell” article, we explore the intricate mechanisms of the dual function of autophagy ...

Face Recognition Based on CSGF(2D)2PCANet
Face recognition has a great potential to play an important role in computer vision field. However, the majority of face recognition methods are based on the low-level features, which may not yield good results.
