PATULOUS EUSTACHIAN TUBE

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1951
THE CONDITION of patulous Eustachian tube, while not very common, is much more prevalent than is usually supposed. It is, in all probability, frequently overlooked and has seldom been discussed. In looking through a large number of the standard textbooks on otolaryngology one can find very few that even mention it.

Autophony and the patulous eustachian tube

The Laryngoscope, 1981
AbstractAutophony and the patulous Eustachian tube is a real but rare clinical entity often misdiagnosed because the symptoms so mimic those of middle ear effusion. The diagnosis is made by the history of fullness or blockage and hearing ones own voice and breath sounds in the ear.

Patulous Eustachian tube: A radiological perspective

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1990
AbstractThe diagnosis of a patulous Eustachian tube relies mainly upon the history, examination and a clinical awareness of the condition. More recently, objective tests such as tympanometry and sonotubometry have been shown to be useful in confirming the diagnosis.

Patulous Eustachian tube associated with hemodialysis

European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, 2007
The objective of the present study is to demonstrate that hemodialysis (HD) is a possible causal factor for patulous Eustachian tube (ET). We present a representative case report and results of a mass examination in the HD unit. The present patient (a 55-year-old woman) reported aural fullness and autophony were often experienced after HD. The findings

Update on eustachian tube dysfunction and the patulous eustachian tube

Current Opinion in Otolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery, 2005
The purpose of this review is to summarize the recent knowledge on eustachian tube dysfunction and the patulous eustachian tube.A clinically useful test for eustachian tube function is still lacking. Narrowing of the isthmus alone was demonstrated to be an insufficient cause of otitis media.

The Patulous Eustachian Tube: Management Options

Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 1991
The patulous eustachian tube is a benign, yet annoying condition that may be overlooked or misdiagnosed. It is frequently associated with peritubal atrophy, and usually responds to conservative measures such as weight gain or mucus‐producing agents. In patients not responding to these measures, a variety of surgical options are available.

Surgical Treatment of Patulous Eustachian Tube

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1982
Thirteen patients (16 ears) with patulous eustachian tubes were treated with pterygoid hamulotomy combined with transposition (eight ears) or transection (eight ears) of the tendon of the tensor veli palatini muscle. Tubal function was tested preoperatively and postoperatively by sonotubometry.

Compliance of the Patulous Eustachian Tube

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1993
The compliance and ventilatory functions of the eustachian tube (ET) of 17 ears with patulous ETs were examined and compared to those of 16 ears with traumatic perforation of the eardrum (controls) by means of the tubal compliance test, the inflation-deflation test, and the forced response test.
