Paper patching for patulous eustachian tube
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 2019Paper patching, a method that places cigarette paper over the most mobile quadrants of the tympanic membrane, is one of the treatment options for patulous eustachian tube (PET).The objective of this study was to compare the outcomes of two different treatment strategies for PET.Twenty-three patients underwent paper patching of the tympanic membrane and

Mastoid Pneumatization of the Patulous Eustachian Tube
Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 2000The pathophysiology of the patulous eustachian tube (PET) remains unclear. The degree of mastoid cell pneumatization is considered an indicator of chronic inflammation of the middle ear. We used the mastoid cell area to investigate the relationship between past chronic inflammation of the middle ear cavity and a PET in 84 patients (20 to 83 years old).

Uncommon Aetiology for Autophony: Patulous Eustachian Tube
Acta Otorrinolaringologica (English Edition), 2013We report the case of a patient with autophony diagnosed with a patulous Eustachian tube. Patulous eustachian tube in bariatric surgery patients
Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 2010OBJECTIVEPatulous eustachian tube (PET) is associated with several factors, including weight loss. Rapid and significant weight loss in bariatric surgery patients may be risk factors for developing PET. The aim of this study is to provide information about the prevalence of PET after bariatric surgery and its association to weight loss.STUDY DESIGNCase

A novel technique for patulous Eustachian tube augmentation
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, 2020To determine the effectiveness of a soft-tissue bulking agent comparing novel approaches of Eustachian tube (ET) augmentation procedures: transpalatinatal Eustachian tube augmentation in local and general anesthesia versus an augmentation with velotraction under general anesthesia.

Patulous Eustachian Tube:Diagnostic Evaluation by Sonotubometry
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1978Twenty-five patients (31 ears) with pathologically patent Eustachian tubes are presented and the symptoms are analysed. All the ears were examined by sonotubometry and two different opening patterns could be separated for the patulous tube. The variations in impedance of the ear during respiration were recorded from nearly all ears and three ears with ...

Pathophysiology of the Eustachian Tube: The Patulous Eustachian Tube
2013The impairment of the physiological protection function of the Eustachian tube causes a distressing autophony and aural fullness, the so-called syndrome of the patulous Eustachian tube (pET) [13, 74, 130]. The pET as it is described here to a certain extent is just the “tip of the iceberg” in the general complex of Eustachian tube closing failure [108].

Patulous Eustachian Tube: Report of 30 Cases
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1961Patulous Eustachian tube has been considered an extremely rare condition (Beck and Guttman, 5 or a rarity, Zollner, 69 cited by Metz 34 ) as recently as 1947. Many accepted textbooks of otolaryngology * entirely omit any discussion of the subject. However, interest in the "open" tube is apparently increasing in recent years, as indicated by the greater
