Proteomic profile of CSF obtained at the time of diagnosis determines amyotrophic lateral sclerosis progression and survival: CXCL7 levels in disease prognosis and survival

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
Untargeted multiomic profiling of cerebrospinal fluid reveals that proteomic, but not lipidomic, signatures robustly distinguish ALS patients from controls and stratify individuals by survival, highlighting marked molecular differences between short survival and long survival disease.

A fuzzy logic approach for pavement section classification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Section classification is one of the primary challenges in any successful pavement management system. Sections are normally classified based on their pavement condition index in order to categorise as "good", "moderate" and "poor".

A grounded theory of the process of social transition in a family context from the perspective of gender diverse young people and their parents

open access: yesChild and Adolescent Mental Health, EarlyView.
Background Some gender diverse young people (GDYP) socially transition—a process of changing from living as the gender that they were assigned at birth to another gender, through social means. Whilst the role of the whole family in the social transitions of GDYP has been indicated, there is a lack of applicable theory and research on the processes of ...

‘Talk to Us, Not About Us’: Children's Understandings and Experiences of Participation in Australian Family Law

open access: yesChild &Family Social Work, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A hive of recent policy and legislative activity in Australian family law has emphasized the importance of children's right to participate in decision‐making following parental separation. Yet a powerful tension persists between supporting children's right to participation and protecting children from parental conflict.

Detection of Flexible Pavement Surface Cracks in Coastal Regions Using Deep Learning and 2D/3D Images

open access: yesSensors
Pavement surface distresses are analyzed by transportation agencies to determine section performance across their pavement networks. To efficiently collect and evaluate thousands of lane-miles, automated processes utilizing image-capturing techniques and

Death in Children's Lives: Reimagining Death Literacy in Childhood

open access: yesChildren &Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Children encounter death in everyday life, through family, peers, media, and health care. Opportunities for meaningful engagement with death‐related topics are limited. In this article, we reimagine death literacy—the knowledge and skills needed to navigate dying, death, and bereavement—through a child‐centred, social constructionist lens ...

Unveiling Gut Homeostasis Disruption in Sepsis: Towards an Integrated Mechanistic and Translational Roadmap

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Elucidating the contribution of gut‐organ axes will provide new insights for developing combined therapeutic strategies against sepsis‐associated multiple organ dysfunction. ABSTRACT Sepsis, a life‐threatening clinical syndrome precipitated by a maladaptive host response to infection, is associated with substantial morbidity and high mortality rates ...

From narratives to numbers and back: Assessing the psychosocial aspects of diabetes in the era of high technology with emerging qualitative and quantitative methodologies

open access: yesDiabetic Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims Rapid changes in diabetes therapy combined with limitations of traditional methodological approaches challenge the field of psychosocial research to adequately capture the experiences of people with diabetes. This narrative review provides an overview of emerging qualitative and quantitative approaches that can advance the study of ...

Development of pavement thermal area index (PTAI) for flexible pavement performance evaluation [PDF]

open access: yes
Pavements are exposed to severe weather conditions and continuous mechanical loading, leading to both visible surface degradation and hidden subsurface damage. Among the various forms of distress, fatigue cracking-particularly alligator cracking-commonly
