Visualizing Pavement Management Data at the Project Level

open access: yes, 2015
As a Pavement Management System increases in maturity, so does the amount of information powering it. As the level of information grows, efficiently communicating the data becomes difficult. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has a

Thermochemical Micro‐Explosion for Prompt Thrombolysis via Proximal Injection of Liquid Alkali Metal

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We report a micro‐explosive thermochemical thrombolysis (METCT) therapy via injectable liquid alkali metal encapsulated in dimethyl silicone (LAM@oil). METCT enables prompt and safe vascular recanalization within 90 s. Critically, the LAM@oil system demonstrates significantly higher thrombolytic efficacy compared to clinically available thrombolytic ...

Remote Magnetomechanical Neuromodulation Uncovers Therapeutic Mechanisms for Alleviating Parkinsonian Symptoms in Freely Moving Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Magnetomechanical neuromodulation using magnetic nanodiscs enables remote activation of neurons. In a hemiparkinsonian mouse model, alternating magnetic fields actuate the nanodiscs to generate torque that opens mechanosensitive ion channels within the subthalamic nucleus, thereby modulating basal ganglia motor circuitry.

Quantifying the Benefits of Pavement Asset Management

open access: yes, 2015
In the 1970s it became clear that pavements could not actually be designed for 30-50 year life; and that they had to be managed. It was found necessary to consider construction, maintenance, rehabilitation, and even reconstruction in the life of ...
