Deciphering the Photopolymerization‐Induced Nanostructures and Interface Formation for Submicrometer Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work reveals the UV‐curing‐induced monomer‐rich domain, oligomer‐rich domain, and entangled oligomer domain. The cured submicron films in stressed state induce interlayer nano‐wrinkle structures during the deposition of the second layer. Stress‐free cured films in relaxed state form non‐diffusive, diffusive and semi‐diffusive interlayer ...

Using sensing, statistical, and numerical analysis approaches to evaluate the effect of temperature change on the resilient performance of highway pavements

open access: yesTransportation Engineering
The paper is to evaluate the effect of temperature change on the performance (i.e., roughness, mechanical response, etc.) of highway pavement using vehicle-based sensing technology, statistical analysis and numerical analysis.

Automated Pavement Condition Assessment Using Laser Crack Measurement System (LCMS) on Airfield Pavements in Ireland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Pavement condition surveys which identify pavement distress types, severities and quantities and provide a condition index or rating are an essential part of any pavement management system and an invaluable tool in the evaluation of a pavement's ...

Genetically Programmed Shape‐Morphing of Engineered Living Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, bacterial and mammalian engineered living materials (ELMs) are presented, in which living cells direct genetically programmed and enzymatically mediated shape‐morphing. The resulting deformation and shape‐recovery can be actuated in a genetically controlled manner by an ELM incorporating out‐of‐equilibrium counteracting biochemical reactions with

Performance Measures for Pavement Assets under Performance Based Contracts

open access: yes, 2015
Over the past decade, there has been a movement in North America towards Performance Based Contracts (PBC). In PBCs, the client agency specifies defined minimum performance measures to be met or exceeded during the contract period. PBC operates through a

Evaluating Roadway Subsurface Drainage Practices: TR-643, 2013 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The bearing capacity and service life of a pavement is affected adversely by the presence of undrained water in the pavement layers. In cold winter climates like in Iowa, this problem is magnified further by the risk of frost damage when water is present.

Sub‐1 ms Optoelectronic Synapse Based on {ZnCdO/ZnO} Multilayer Structure for High‐Speed Neuromorphic Vision Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Eu‐doped {ZnCdO/ZnO} structures grown on Si are developed, showcasing dual‐functionality controlled by europium doping. While high europium concentration transforms the device into an ultrafast, self‐powered photodetector, low‐doped structures can be used as an optoelectronic synapse.

Integrated Materials and Construction Practice for Concrete Pavement: A State-of-the-Practice Manual, 2006 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
At the heart of all concrete pavement projects is the concrete itself. This manual is intended as both a training tool and a reference to help concrete paving engineers, quality control personnel, specifiers, contractors, suppliers, technicians, and ...

Hopping‐Mediated Zero‐Bias Photocharge Retention in Solution‐Processed Van Der Waals Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid–liquid interface assembly enables the fabrication of solution‐processed MoS2 and WSe2 centimeter‐scale, nanometer‐thick type‐II heterostructures on paper. Interfacial charge separation and hopping‐limited recombination produce rectification and persistent photocharge retention at zero bias.
