24 million years of pollination interaction between European linden flowers and bumble bees
Summary Pollination is the most common insect–plant mutualism, binding them in a co‐evolutionary framework. Historic evidence of this interaction can be partly inferred from time‐calibrated molecular phylogenies of plant and insect lineages or directly from fossils.

Effect of Temperature and Catalyst Concentration on Polyglycerol during Synthesis
Morphology, molecular weight, polydispersity, functionality, and thermal properties are important characteristics when using polyglycerol as a building block in the development of materials for industrial applications such as hydrogels, surfactants, asphalts additives, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, biomedical, and drug delivery systems.

Apocynaceae wood evolution matches key morphological innovations
Abstract Premise This paper provides an overview of the wood anatomy of the dogbane family (Apocynaceae), reconstructs wood anatomical trait evolution, and links this evolution with woody growth‐form transitions and floral and seed trait innovations across the family.

An Iterative Approach for the Optimization of Pavement Maintenance Management at the Network Level
Pavement maintenance is one of the major issues of public agencies. Insufficient investment or inefficient maintenance strategies lead to high economic expenses in the long term. Under budgetary restrictions, the optimal allocation of resources becomes a crucial aspect.

Summary The superior productivity of C4 plants is achieved via a metabolic C4 cycle which acts as a CO2 pump across mesophyll and bundle sheath (BS) cells and requires an additional input of energy in the form of ATP. The importance of chloroplast NADH dehydrogenase‐like complex (NDH) operating cyclic electron flow (CEF) around Photosystem I (PSI) for ...

Decoupling cell size homeostasis in diatoms from the geometrical constraints of the silica cell wall
Summary Unicellular organisms are known to exert tight control over their cell size. In the case of diatoms, abundant eukaryotic microalgae, two opposing notions are widely accepted. On the one hand, the rigid silica cell wall that forms inside the parental cell is thought to enforce geometrical reduction of the cell size.

Abstract Premise Previous studies have suggested a trade‐off between trichome density (Dt) and stomatal density (Ds) due to shared cell precursors. We clarified how, when, and why this developmental trade‐off may be overcome across species. Methods We derived equations to determine the developmental basis for Dt and Ds in trichome and stomatal indices (

Abstract Premise Leaf epidermal cell morphology is closely tied to the evolutionary history of plants and their growth environments and is therefore of interest to many plant biologists. However, cell measurement can be time consuming and restrictive with current methods.
