Wear and tool life of tungsten carbide, PCBN and PCD cutting tools
International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2006The wear mechanisms of cutting tools made of tungsten-carbide (WC), PCBN and PCD were investigated using the tool life and temperature results available in the literature. For tool/work combinations WC/steel and PCBN/hardened-steel, under practical conditions, tool wear was found to be greatly influenced by the temperature.

Effect of chamfer angle on wear of PCBN cutting tool
International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2003In precision hard turning, a remaining problem is to minimise tool wear to maintain the accuracy of geometry and surface finish. Tool wear not only directly reduces the part geometry accuracy but also increases cutting forces drastically. The change in the cutting forces also causes instability in the tool motion, which results in more inaccuracy. PCBN

Modeling of the Machining Process by PCBN Tool with Self-adaptive Coating
2021The paper discusses the analytical calculation’s results of the effect of the self-adaptive coating on such parameters of the contact interaction at the cutting zone as average contact temperature and cutting force during machining of hardened steel with PCBN. The calculation procedure was realized in the form of an iteration algorithm.

PCBN tool wear modes and mechanisms in finish hard turning
Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing, 2007The use of polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) cutting tools in hard turning applications is continuously growing with the number of commercially available grades increasing, allowing new application areas to be explored. In order to take full advantage of the benefits offered by PCBN it is necessary to understand the behaviour of the material ...
