Direct and indirect effects of different types of microplastics on freshwater prey (Corbicula fluminea) and their predator (Acipenser transmontanus). [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
We examined whether environmentally relevant concentrations of different types of microplastics, with or without PCBs, directly affect freshwater prey and indirectly affect their predators. Asian clams (Corbicula fluminea) were exposed to environmentally

Probabilistic Approach to Assessing Photolithography Quality in the Production of Printed Circuit Boards

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений России: Радиоэлектроника
Introduction. The current trend in the production of miniaturized electronic devices with improved computing power and performance leads to an increase in the density of interconnections on printed circuit boards (PCBs) and a reduction in the dimensions ...

Legacy contaminants in the eastern Beaufort Sea beluga whales (Delphinapterus leucas): are temporal trends reflecting regulations?

open access: yesArctic Science, 2018
Once deposited onto Arctic ecosystems, persistent organic pollutants (POPs) biomagnify in foodwebs such that relatively high levels have been detected in predators like beluga whales (Delphinapterus leucas).

Chemistry of PCBs and PBBs [PDF]

open access: yesEnvironmental Health Perspectives, 1978
A recent book by Hutzinger et al. (1) reviews the chemistry of chlorinated biphenyls through the end of 1973. This wide-ranging review also includes discussions of metabolism and determination of chlorinated biphenyls. The present report reviews areas of chlorobiphenyl and bromobiphenyl chemistry held to be pertinent to the Subcommittee's concern for ...

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) enhance metastatic properties of breast cancer cells by activating Rho-associated kinase (ROCK). [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
BackgroundPolychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are a family of structurally related chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons. Numerous studies have documented a wide spectrum of biological effects of PCBs on human health, such as immunotoxicity, neurotoxicity ...

Volatilization of PCBs from PCB-containing Ballast in Fluorescent Lamp and Indoor PCB pollution: Odor of PCBs

open access: yesJournal of Japan Association on Odor Environment, 2005

Biomonitoring of non-dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls in transgenic Arabidopsis using the mammalian pregnane X receptor system: a role of pectin in pollutant uptake. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are persistent organic pollutants damaging to human health and the environment. Techniques to indicate PCB contamination in planta are of great interest to phytoremediation.

From trash to resource: a green approach to noble-metals dissolution and recovery

open access: yesGreen Processing and Synthesis, 2014
A process based on the lixiviant properties of organic mixtures of dihalogen/S,S-ligands, N,N′-dimethyl-perhydrodiazepine-2,3-dithione (Me2dazdt) and tetraalkylthiuramdisulphide (Et4TDS) in the presence of diiodine, for gold recovery from the non-ferrous

Factors affecting the atmospheric occurrence and deposition of polychlorinated biphenyls in the Southern Ocean [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2013
Persistent organic pollutants, such as polychlorinated biphenyls, reach the Southern Ocean atmosphere through long-range atmospheric transport. In this study we report the largest dataset available for the atmospheric occurrence of PCBs in the Southern ...
