Background: N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) dysfunction is implicated in schizophrenia, and NMDAR antagonists, such as phencyclidine (PCP), can induce behaviours that mimic aspects of the disorder. Aims: We investigated DNA methylation of Grin1, Grin2a and Grin2b promoter region and NR1 and NR2 protein expression in the prefrontal cortex (PFC ...

Quantitative study of the PCP effect
Chemical Physics Letters, 2009Abstract Recent studies of the π -electron properties of acenaphthylene, fluoranthene, and their congeners showed that the presence of phenyl–cyclopentadienyl (PCP) fragments amplifies the intensity of cyclic conjugation in the five-membered ring of the respective molecules.

Phencyclidine (PCP): Effects on limbic afterdischarges in the rhesus monkey
Brain Research Bulletin, 1984Effects of phencyclidine (PCP) on eliciting afterdischarges (AD) by electrical stimulation of the hippocampus (HIPP), amygdala (AMY), thalamus (CM) and midbrain reticular formation (MRF) were studied in rhesus monkeys with permanently implanted encephalic electrodes.

Phencyclidine (PCP): Effects on auditory evoked potentials in the rhesus monkey
Brain Research Bulletin, 1984Effects of acute and chronic administration of phencyclidine (PCP) on auditory evoked potentials (AEPs) were studied in rhesus monkeys with encephalic electrodes permanently implanted. AEPs were evoked by single clicks (1.0 pps in frequency) generated by an externally triggered audiomonitor.

Effects of acute and chronic administration of phencyclidine (PCP) on EEG activities and gross behavior were studied in monkeys with electrodes implanted in the brain. Administration of PCP (2.0 or 4.0 mg/kg i.v.) in monkeys produced a biphasic pattern of inhibition and excitation of behavior during 6-8 h observation period.

Phencyclidine (PCP), a non-competitive antagonist of ionotropic N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors, produces psychotomimetic effects, such as a disruption in prepulse inhibition (PPI) of the startle response. NMDA antagonists also induce locomotor hyperactivity in rodents.
