High-volume workflow and performance comparisons for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae testing using automated molecular platforms

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2019
Background The global burden of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is high and there have been reports of increasing chlamydial and gonorrheal infections.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

From Sequence‐Defined Macromolecules to Macromolecular Pin Codes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2020
Dynamic sequence‐defined oligomers carrying a chemically written pin code are obtained through a strategy combining multicomponent reactions with the thermoreversible addition of 1,2,4‐triazoline‐3,5‐diones (TADs) to indole substrates.

Combining low-level perception with expectations in CHREST [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The ability of humans to reliably perceive and recognise objects relies on an interaction between information seen in the visual image and prior expectations.

Enhanced analysis of real-time PCR data by using a variable efficiency model : FPK-PCR [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Current methodology in real-time Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis performs well provided PCR efficiency remains constant over reactions. Yet, small changes in efficiency can lead to large quantification errors. Particularly in biological samples,

Quantitative PCR and RT-PCR in virology. [PDF]

open access: yesGenome Research, 1993
In the last few years, molecular hybridization methods have been used extensively in basic and applied virology because of their technical flexibility and high specificity. Using these techniques, the detection of DNA and RNA viruses directly from clinical specimens, the analysis of the specific transcriptional activity of viral genes in vitro and in ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

CHREST+: A simulation of how humans learn to solve problems using diagrams. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This paper describes the underlying principles of a computer model, CHREST+, which learns to solve problems using diagrammatic representations. Although earlier work has determined that experts store domain-specific information within schemata, no ...

Power Counting Regime of Chiral Effective Field Theory and Beyond [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Chiral effective field theory complements numerical simulations of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) on a space-time lattice. It provides a model-independent formalism for connecting lattice simulation results at finite volume and a variety of quark masses to
