Integrative Zoology, EarlyView.We provide an early description of the gut microbiome of wild, free‐ranging Asian elephants (Elephas maximus). Using 16S rRNA gene amplicon data from 123 fecal samples collected across 6 months in two Sri Lankan national parks, we found that gut microbiome composition varied significantly by sampling month and, to a lesser extent, by park.
