Photoactivated iridium(III) complexes drive pyroptosis–necroptosis synergy for multi‐network photoimmunotherapy of renal cell carcinoma

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
Photoactivated iridium(III) complexes trigger mitochondrial DNA leakage and Ca²⁺ efflux, simultaneously driving pyroptosis and necroptosis to synergistically enhance immunogenic cell death. This multi‐network cascade promotes dendritic cell maturation and CD8⁺ T cell activation, achieving potent photoimmunotherapy of renal cell carcinoma.

Photostabilized halocyanine for near‐infrared excited bimodal photothermal synergism and tumor‐targeted therapy

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
A series of halogenated organic small molecules were prepared by substituting hydrogen atoms in BC7 molecules with halogen atoms. These chemically modified derivatives displayed significantly improved stability, warming efficiency, and reactive oxygen species generation ability. BC7‐Br and BC7‐Cl showed remarkably enhanced therapeutic efficacy relative

Advances in research on layered double hydroxides for biomedical applications

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are pH‐responsive nanomaterials with broad biomedical applications. This review summarizes LDH synthesis methods and compares their advantages. It highlights LDHs' progress in cancer therapy, including chemo‐photothermal, chemo‐immunotherapy, and photodynamic‐immunotherapy combinations and their potential in bone repair.

A photoimmune synergizing RNA interference technology for highly effective antitumor treatment

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
We developed a red‐light‐activated small‐molecule photosensitizer FNBS, which enables simultaneous photodynamic immunotherapy and RNA interference. FNBS can induce pyroptosis, immunogenic cell death and RNA degradation, avoiding the carrier‐dependent delivery drawbacks of conventional RNAi therapy, converting cold tumors into hot tumors and ...

Hj‐aggregates of quinoline‐fused boron‐dipyrromethene nanoparticles for near‐infrared dualmodal photodynamic and photothermal therapy

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
A novel quinoline‐fused cyclic pyrrole is synthesized via lithium diisopropylamide‐catalyzed [3 + 2] cyclization, enabling the construction of a symmetrical boron‐dipyrromethene photosensitizer that forms Hj‐aggregates upon nanoparticle encapsulation.
