Challenges of polyethylene (PE) biodegradation – A perspective

Biotechnology Advances
PE brings convenience to people, as this plastic is cheap and performs in thousands of different forms. As PE with its high molecular weight and its stable CC bonds is recalcitrant. For decades, much work has been dedicated to screening microorganisms isolated from, e.g., soil, water, landfills, complemented with microbes from strain collections for ...

Elevated temperature properties of polyethylene (PE) and polyethylene (PE) nanocomposites

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the effects of clay on PE's mechanical properties with relation to temperature and strain rate. Young's Modulus and Yield stress are measured. These properties are plotted against each other to determine what effects the addition of clay has on the base materialIn this thesis, various mixtures of711 UV Low ...

Evaluation of degradability of biodegradable polyethylene (PE)

Polymer Degradation and Stability, 2003
Thermo-oxidative degradation of polyethylene films containing pro-oxidant has been studied at three temperatures that normally occur during composting conditions. Besides temperature, oxygen concentration was also varied. After various periods, the effects of thermo-oxidation were evaluated by measurements of molecular mass of the materials.
