Peak expiratory flow rate in the management of cystic fibrosis [PDF]

open access: yesJornal de Pediatria, 2002
OBJECTIVE: To verify the role of peak expiratory flow, measured through portable meters, as an alternative test to assess pulmonary disease in cystic fibrosis. METHODS: Forty-nine patients aged five to 19 years old in stable health condition and able to perform the peak expiratory flow maneuver were included.

Microfluidic Nano‐Assembly of Red‐Blood‐Cell (RBC) Lipids and Components for Engineering Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Engineered red blood cell‐derived extracellular vesicles (eRBCEVs) are synthesized via controlled microfluidic assembly from native RBC lipids, enabling tunable encapsulation of proteins, nucleic acids, nanoparticles, and viral vectors. The platform demonstrates reproducible nanoscale architecture, preserved membrane composition, and functional cargo ...

Synchronization‐Dissipation in the Cardiorespiratory System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By modeling central nervous coupling and viscoelastic interactions in the cardiorespiratory system we show that synchronization produces a 10% gain in cardiac efficiency in humans. It is surmised that respiratory sinus arrhythmia improves cardiac pumping efficiency by reducing dynamic stress and power dissipation in the pulmonary vasculature.

Human Foetal Neuroblasts Exhibit BK Channel‐Dependent Membrane Voltage Oscillations upon Depolarization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Primary cultures of neuroblasts isolated from the nucleus basalis of Meynert of 12‐weeks‐old human foetuses were prepared. Whole‐cell patch‐clamp recordings were performed by injecting a depolarizing stimulus current (+500 pA; 500 ms), and the membrane voltage recorded; this stimulus current evoked periodic‐like oscillations in membrane voltage ...

Effectiveness and Safety of Oral Triamcinolone in the Management of Acute Exacerbations of Asthma: A Prospective Interventional Study [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research
Introduction: Acute exacerbation of asthma leads to increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Oral Corticosteroids (OCS) are critical in the management of asthma exacerbations; however, the response varies between patients.

Rural Labor Supply and Economic Opportunities: Commuting, Migration, Tariffs, and Immigration

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Some rural counties remain dependent on agricultural or manufacturing jobs, but an increasing proportion have diversified economics. Rural counties also differ in their abilities to commute to an urban market characterized by higher wages and labor productivity.

Seasonal variation of peak expiratory flow rate of normal-weight individuals

open access: yesMuller Journal of Medical Sciences and Research
Background: Climate change is one of the substantial factors contributing to environmental pollution, causing respiratory health problems. Peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) monitoring is an indispensable tool for diagnosis and prognosis of reversible ...

Peak expiratory flow rate in dry cell battery manufacturing workers in Nellore district

open access: yesNational Journal of Physiology, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, 2019
Background: Carbon block is possibly carcinogenic to humans. Short-term exposure to high concentrations of carbon black dust may produce discomfort to the upper respiratory tract, through mechanical irritation.

Weather Attention in Online Discourse and Price Uncertainty in Agricultural Futures Markets

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Weather is a central determinant of production risk in agricultural markets, but markets respond not only to weather conditions themselves, but also to how those conditions are noticed, framed, and interpreted in public discourse. In this setting, real‐time online weather discussions may shape price uncertainty by influencing how market ...

Seasonal Patterns of Peak Expiratory Flow Rate in Young Healthy Individuals

open access: yesJournal of Karnali Academy of Health Sciences, 2023
Background: The seasonal changes are associated with changes in pulmonary functions including Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEFR). These changes are different among different population and location.
