Personal exposure to black carbon during commuting in peak and off-peak hours in Shanghai

Science of The Total Environment, 2015
A study on a commuter's exposure to black carbon (BC) in five different traffic modes (taxi, bus, subway, cycling and walking) was conducted in Xuhui District, Shanghai. A commuter's real-time exposure concentrations were recorded by MicroAeth AE51 BC monitors, and the average BC exposure concentration and inhalation dose were analyzed.

Peak-Hour Rail Demand Shifting with Discrete Optimisation

2019
In this work we consider an information-based system to reduce metropolitan rail congestion in Melbourne, Australia. Existing approaches aim to reduce congestion by asking commuters to travel outside of peak times. We propose an alternative approach where congestion is reduced by enabling commuters to make an informed trade-off between travel time and ...

Effect of Off-peak Hour Toll Reduction on Toll Roads

International Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems Research, 2010
A transport economic model was developed to evaluate changes in total travel costs on congested toll roads by dispersing peak-hour traffic to the pre-peak hours or post-peak hours with a toll discount. To empirically analyze the effectiveness of the early-morning and daytime toll discount, early departure cost and late arrival cost were estimated and ...

Peak‐Hour Road Congestion Pricing: Experimental Evidence and Equilibrium Implications

Econometrica, 2023
Developing country megacities suffer from severe road traffic congestion, yet the level of congestion is not a direct measure of equilibrium inefficiency. I study the peak‐hour traffic congestion equilibrium in Bangalore. To measure travel preferences, I use a model of departure time choice to design a field experiment with congestion pricing policies ...
