Energy peak shaving with local storage

Sustainable Computing: Informatics and Systems, 2011
Abstract We introduce a new problem inspired by energy pricing schemes in which a client is billed for peak usage. At each timeslot the system meets an energy demand through a combination of a new request, an unreliable amount of free source energy (e.g. solar or wind power), and previously received energy.

Comprehensive peak-shaving solutions for port cranes

2016 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2016
Port facilities have to be organized as microgrids to pursue an efficient electrical utilization based on the four “l”-pillars in the sustainable energy use: levelled, less, local, load (lele-lolo). This paper deals with the special case of STS cranes characterized by high power peaks and a low load factor that require an over-sized electrical network ...

Peak demand shaving by cogeneration

Conference Record of the 1993 IEEE Industry Applications Conference Twenty-Eighth IAS Annual Meeting, 2002
The authors present a methodology for calculating the optimal cogeneration facility capacity and operation suitable for demand-side peak shaving, ensuring a reliable service and economic utilization of the facility. This methodology takes into consideration steam conditions in the plant, electric load profile, fuel price, operating hours, plant ...

Peak shaving with photovoltaic-battery systems

IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies, Europe, 2014
With the steady growth of the photovoltaic market over the last decade, the feed-in of photovoltaic-generators may strain the electricity grid, especially in rural areas. Storage devices are expected to smooth over the non-simultaneous production of volatile renewable energies and their consumption. In this paper, we investigate to what extent domestic

Peak Shaving Algorithms for Residential Consumers. A Comparative Study

2020 24th International Conference on System Theory, Control and Computing (ICSTCC), 2020
The aim of this paper is to compare the day-ahead electricity consumption optimization algorithms for smart houses with the widely used linear programming techniques. Both algorithms are designed to work on real data acquired from a small residential community with 11 houses and are validated in simulation.

Distributed battery control for peak power shaving in datacenters

2013 International Green Computing Conference Proceedings, 2013
Datacenters are large cyber-physical systems with continuous performance and power measurements, and real-time control decisions related to workload placement, cooling and power subsystems etc. In our work we focus on the non-ideal UPS system used to shave peak power demands.

CES peak demand shaving with energy storage system

2017 International Conference on Information and Communication Technology Convergence (ICTC), 2017
This paper analyzes energy cost reduction from peak demand shaving when a CES provider adopts ESS for the CHP-based CES microgrid site in Seoul, Korea. The simulation results show that about 9% of peak shaving can be realized when a 270kWh ESS is used for three thousand CES households.

Peak Load Shaving Model Based on Individual's Habit

2015 Ninth International Conference on Complex, Intelligent, and Software Intensive Systems, 2015
Smart Grid is supposed to play an important role in future energy management. In smart grid, Demand Side Management (DSM) is one of the main areas which is under focus of researchers in order to solve the classical problem of peak demand management. In this paper, we have proposed a Habit Based DSM (HBDSM) model for peak load shaving.

Economic Analysis Method for Peak Shaving of Wind Storage Combined System Considering Energy Storage Participating In Peak Shaving

2020 International Conference on Intelligent Transportation, Big Data & Smart City (ICITBS), 2020
The purpose of the operation of the combined wind and gas system is to reduce system frequency fluctuations and system peak-to-valley differences caused by wind power output. In this paper, the peaking economy of the combined system of wind storage is taken as the research object, and the peaking optimization scheduling model of the wind storage ...

Storage operation for peak shaving of distributed PV and wind generation

2013 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference (ISGT), 2013
The integration of fluctuating power generation based on renewable energy systems (RES-E) in distribution grids require grid reinforcement resulting from high feed-in peaks. Introducing storage assets can decrease these peaks. For this, storage technologies need to be chosen and dimensioned according to the prevailing RES-E portfolio.
