AbstractThe influence of prior austenite grain size dγ, and true interlamellar spacing of pearlite St on the strength and fracture toughness of a eutectoid rail steel has been investigated. Specimens were machined from rail sections and heat treated to produce a wide variation in dγ and st. Mechanical properties studied included 0·2% proof stress σ0·2,

Effect of Interlamellar Spacing on the Low Cycle Fatigue Behavior of a Fully Pearlitic Steel
Metallography, Microstructure, and Analysis, 2021The present study aims at investigating the low cycle fatigue behavior of two fully AISI 1080 pearlitic steels which differed in their interlamellar spacing (72 ± 15 and 143 ± 32 nm). Low cycle fatigue tests were performed under positive strain control at different total strain variations (0.6% ≤ Δet ≤ 1.6%). It is shown that both alloys presented an

Effect of interlamellar spacing on the delamination of pearlitic steel wires
Scripta Materialia, 1996Abstract The increased interlamellar spacing causes the larger sized globular cementite particles in colonies initially aligned transverse to the drawing axis, and results in the occurrence of more frequent and larger sized void formation during drawing.

Measurement of fine pearlite interlamellar spacing by atomic force microscopy
Journal of Materials Science, 1997Pearlite interlamellar spacing is an important parameter controlling ductility and strain hardening of carbon steels. Fine pearlite is the appropriate initial microstructure for drawing high carbon steel with exponential strain hardening rate, leading to high final tensile strengths. The majority of optical and electron microscopy methods for measuring

Abstract The present study proposed an improved composition-structure–property model which incorporates physical features in the machine learning(ML) process. Herein, the physical parameters, the volume fraction of ferrite, cementite and carbides and the transformation temperature of pearlite, were included to the dataset as extra input variables to ...

Effect of alloys additions on the interlamellar spacing of pearlite
Archiv für das Eisenhüttenwesen, 1979The spacing of pearlite was measured to investigate the effect of, alloying elements on this parameter using high purity plain carbon, 2 % Co, 2 % Si, 1 % Cr and 0.3 % Mo eutectoid steels. The investigation revealed that the addition of these alloying elements increases the spacing of pearlite at a given undercooling.

Effect of interlamellar spacing of pearlite on the attenuation of ultrasound
NDT International, 1979The attenuation of ultrasound was studied in samples of pearlitic steel taken from railway wheels containing between 0.53 and 0.61% carbon. A strong dependence of ultrasonic attenuation on grain size was observed; in addition a relationship was shown between the interlamellar spacing of pearlite in the steel and the attenuation coefficient.

Abstract In this study, the effect of undercooling on the average interlamellar spacing of pearlite in DIN39Cr4 steel was examined. A new simple procedure is introduced, which is similar to the Swartz-Saltykov method elaborated for spherical phases, and by which the frequency function of the true interlamellar spacing, and therefore, the average true

Specific features of plastic deformation and tensile failure of a spring steel with systematically various pearlite fineness obtained by isothermal transformation have been investigated by uniaxial tensile tests and electron microscopes. The results indicated that pearlite interlamellar spacing has an important influence on that.

Abstract The strength of pearlite in an eutectoid steel with varying interlamellar spacings and in five hypoeutectoid steels with varying volume fraction of the constituent phases, have been studied using microhardness measurements. In the eutectoid steel, the strength of pearlite derived on its proportionality with microhardness, is found to ...
