Micromechanical modeling of ferritic/pearlitic steels

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2002
A two-dimensional micromechanical model based on the Voronoi algorithm is presented to model two-phase ferritic/pearlitic steels. Special care is taken to generate periodic grain structures as well as periodic finite element meshes. The model is evaluated by generalized plane strain finite element calculations, periodic representative cells are ...

Strengthening in low carbon pearlitic steels

Materials Science and Engineering, 1986
Abstract The microstructure-flow stress relationship has been examined in two simple ferrite-pearlite steels. As in fully pearlite steels, a Hall-Petch equation was shown to be applicable, when care is taken in obtaining the appropriate mean slip distance in ferrite for each microstructure.

Mechanism of the Formation of Pearlite in Steels

Nature, 1949
FOR the sake of simplicity, we shall consider the case of an eutectoid steel ; if the steel is cooled slowly from the austenitic region, a well-known pearlite structure is formed in crossing the A1 line, that is, 726°, and remains as such down to room temperature. During heating, just the reverse change will take place.

Effect of cementite spheroidization on improving corrosion resistance of pearlitic steel under simulated bottom plate environment of cargo oil tank

Materialia, 2019
The influence of cementite spheroidization on the corrosion resistance of a pearlitic steel used as cargo oil tank under the simulated bottom plate environment was investigated by employing microstructural characterizations, electrochemical measurements ...

The morphology and formation mechanism of pearlite in steels

Materials Characterization, 2009
A number of morphological features of pearlite were revealed through scanning electron microscopy using deeply etched specimens. These include cementite branching, bridging, gaps, holes and curvature. The presence of cementite thin films or networks along the austenite grain boundaries in eutectoid steel and at the interface between pearlite and ...

Microstructure and mechanical properties of heavily cold drawn pearlitic steel wires: Effects of low temperature annealing

Materials Characterization, 2019
Heavily cold drawn pearlitic steel wires prepared with drawing strains (e) of 4.5, 5.1 and 5.3 were annealed at low temperatures for different durations.

Structure and properties of low-pearlite steel

Metal Science and Heat Treatment, 1977
1. In terms of increasing stability of austenite the steels investigated can be arranged in the following order: 08G2S; 08G2S+0.03% V; 08G2S+0.05% Nb; 08G2S+0.02% Nb+0.03% V. 2. The increase in the strength of steels 08G2S, 08G2SB, and 08G2SF and the increase of their cold resistance when the final rolling temperature is lowered to 700 ...

Precipitation at the transformation interface of pearlite in steel

Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1990
The austenite/pearlite growth interface in a model alloy steel (Fe-1lMn-0.8C-0.5V nominal wt%) is being studied in an attempt to characterise the morphology and mechanism of VC precipitation at the growth interface. In this alloy pearlite nodules can be grown isothermally in austenite that remains stable at room temperature thus facilitating ...

Selection of the best phase transformation model for optimization of manufacturing processes of pearlitic steel rails

Archives of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, 2019
Selection of the best model for simulation of manufacturing processes of pearlitic steel rails was the objective of the paper. Achieving a proper balance between its predictive capabilities and computing costs was used as a criterion.
