Effect of Ce on inclusions and carbides in M2 high-speed steel

open access: yes工程科学学报
Two heats of M2 high-speed steel with different rare-earth (Ce) contents were produced by a domestic steel plant using the following process route: electric arc furnace (EAF) smelting → ladle furnace (LF) refining → vacuum degassing (VD) → electroslag ...

Co‐Deformation in Severely Deformed Multiphase Crystalline Metallic Systems: Physical Mechanisms, Intrinsic Limitations, and Perspectives

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 26, Issue 19, October 2024.
Taking advantage of co‐deformation mechanisms is a promising way to achieve fine grain metal matrix composites or architectured structures with unique properties. Understanding physical mechanisms is critical to promote refinement or fragmentation or mechanical mixing.

Surface Functionalization of Novel Work‐Hardening Multi‐Principal‐Element Alloys by Ultrasonic Assisted Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 26, Issue 20, October 2024.
Multi‐principal‐element alloys (MPEAs) with high work hardening capacity, like Hadfield steel, can extend conventional alloy systems. In this study, CoFeNi‐based MPEAs with Mn and C are cast and mechanically finished using ultrasonic milling. The resulting MPEAs show significant hardness increase and improved wear resistance, demonstrating their ...

Influence of Tramp Elements on Surface Properties of Liquid Medium‐Carbon Steels

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 95, Issue 8, August 2024.
Greenhouse gas restrictions are forcing steel producers to increase recycling rates. The resulting higher tramp element content affects the oxidic cleanness. Herein, the influence of tramp elements on surface tension, contact angle, and formation of nonmetallic inclusions is investigated.

13C isotopic labeling to decipher the iron corrosion mechanisms in a carbonated anoxic environment

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, Volume 75, Issue 6, Page 786-795, June 2024.
The corrosion progression in a carbonate solution at 120°C was studied, using 13C labeling on a pre‐existing FeCO3‐based corrosion layer of 10‐µm thickness. Experiments showed a localized progression on an already 15‐day‐old sample. The new 13C‐labeled corrosion product was still siderite, detected only in local advances at the corrosion product layer ...

Effect of thermal cycles on formation of pearlitic heat-resistant steel structure under wire arc additive manufacturing

open access: yesIzvestiya. Ferrous Metallurgy
The authors investigated the microstructure and mechanical properties of a model wall manufactured by arc wire 3D printing. 3D printing was performed using heat-resistant pearlitic steel wire in coldArc reduced heat input mode.

Hardening of Cylindrical Bars with Water Impinging Jet Quenching Technique

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 95, Issue 6, June 2024.
Four 70 mm cylindrical steel bars are martensite hardened with different water jet flow rates using impinging jet quenching technique. A finite element method (FEM) quenching model is created to simulate phase transformations and predict the resulting microstructure, hardness, and residual stresses.

Investigation of the mechanical work during ultrasonic fatigue loading using pulsed time‐resolved X‐ray diffraction

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, Volume 31, Issue 1, Page 17-27, January 2024.
The development of a time‐resolved X‐ray diffraction technique using synchrotron radiation in pulsed mode to estimate the stress and the mechanical work during an ultrasonic fatigue test is presented. In the energy production and transportation industries, numerous metallic structures may be subjected to at least several billions of cycles, i.e.

Fuzzy Adaptive PID Algorithm in Temperature Control System of Lead Patenting Furnace

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
In order to enhance the accuracy of temperature control of the patenting furnace, a new temperature control system (TCS) based on the fuzzy adaptive (FA)–proportion integral differential (PID) control algorithm is proposed. The system takes temperature error value and error rate as input and automatically adjusts the PID control parameter value ...
