Dispersion-mediated steering of organic adsorbates on a precovered silicon surface

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2018
The chemistry of organic adsorbates on surfaces is often discussed in terms of Pauli repulsion as limiting factor regarding the packing of molecules. Here we show that the attractive part of the van der Waals potential can be similarly decisive.

Design Specifications for the Hanstholm WEPTOS Wave Energy Converter

open access: yesEnergies, 2012
The WEPTOS wave energy converter (WEC) is a novel device that combines an established and efficient wave energy absorbing mechanism with a smart structure, which can regulate the amount of incoming wave energy and reduce loads in extreme wave conditions.

Incorporating vertical movement of fishes in habitat use models

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Fish telemetry studies now routinely collect positional and depth data, yet analytical approaches that integrate three‐dimensional data are limited. Here we apply the potential path volume (PPV) model, a method previously developed to estimate habitat volume based on rates of avian movement, to free‐swimming fish.

The potential of oviduct tags and fine‐scale acoustic telemetry to reveal the timing and location of spawning in Arctic salmonids (Salvelinus spp.)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Identifying and characterizing spawning locations are paramount for the protection of critical fish habitats but can be challenging, particularly in remote locations. Using the underexplored oviduct‐tagging technique, we aimed to identify the timing and location of spawning for wild Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) and lake trout (Salvelinus ...

Comparison and Sensitivity Investigations of a CALM and SALM Type Mooring System for Wave Energy Converters

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2014
A quasi-static analysis and sensitivity investigation of two different mooring configurations—a single anchor leg mooring (SALM) and a three-legged catenary anchor leg system (CALM)—is presented.

A review of migratory Alosidae marine ecology in the northwest Atlantic

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, Volume 106, Issue 3, Page 677-695, March 2025.
Abstract Migratory animals play a crucial role in connecting distinct habitats by transferring matter and energy across ecosystem boundaries. In the North Atlantic, anadromous species exemplify this through their movement between freshwater and marine environments.
