Comparative Neuromechanical Wing‐Actuation Architectures of Flapping Flight in Insects, Hummingbirds, and Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Natural fliers achieve remarkable aerial performance through diverse wing neuromechanical systems integrating actuation, sensing, and control. This study synthesizes neuromechanical architectures in insects and hummingbirds, identifying two key functional types‐Dual Neural‐Mechanical Oscillator and Neurally‐modulated Mechanical Oscillator‐ and ...

Dual Functions of Dietary Rubber Seed Oil Supplementation: Enriching N‐3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Enhancing Antioxidant Capacity in Pekin Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary RSO supplementation improved growth performance, simultaneously enriched n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 PUFA), and enhanced antioxidant capacity in Pekin ducks, which suggested that RSO has the potential to be a novel n‐3 PUFA source and an antioxidant for Pekin ducks to generate animal functional foods.

A New Anatomical Approach to Male Pectoral Volumization

open access: yesPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Global Open
Background:. In this article, we discuss a new technique of pectoralis major muscle volumization using ultrasound-guided fat grafting, considering a new surgical criterion that allows for larger volumes. Methods:. We present a retrospective observational

Simple Method for Screening the Affected Birds with Remarkably Hardened Pectoralis Major Muscles among Broiler Chickens

open access: yesThe Journal of Poultry Science, 2016
Remarkably hardened pectoralis major muscles are increasingly found in broiler chickens in some slaughterhouses in Japan. Based on physical examinations, we selected three affected birds and three control birds from a 43-day-old Ross 308 commercial ...

Blood Gas Disturbances and Disproportionate Body Weight Distribution in Broilers With Wooden Breast

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2020
Wooden breast syndrome is a widespread and economically important myopathy and vasculopathy of fast growing, commercial broiler chickens, primarily affecting birds with high feed efficiency and large breast muscle yield. To investigate potential systemic

Wing myology of Caracaras (Aves, Falconiformes): muscular features associated with flight behavior [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Caracaras (Aves, Falconiformes, Falconidae) are Neotropical diurnal raptors that belong to the subfamily Polyborinae. The forelimb myology of this group has not been comprehensively studied or compared with that of other Falconidae.

Effect of "wooden breast" appearance on poultry meat quality, histological traits, and lesions characterization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The purposes of the study were to investigate the effects of Wooden Breast (WB) myodegeneration on poultry meat quality and to give a contribution in typing lesions morphology.

Reduction of Ribonucleotide Reductase Subunit RRM2 Potentially Impairs Gut Function of Woody Breast Broilers

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Woody breast compromises meat quality leading to reduced consumer appeal. Although its causes are unclear, improvements observed with certain dietary supplements suggest that gut health may influence woody breast development. Ribonucleotide reductase subunit RRM2 is vital for mitochondrial function and gastrointestinal integrity, and alteration in its ...

Pectoralis Major Repair With Unicortical Button Fixation And Suture Tape

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, 2017
Although injuries of the pectoralis major muscle are generally uncommon, ruptures of the pectoralis major are occasionally seen in younger, more active patients who participate in weightlifting activities.

Pectoralis Muscle Mass on Chest CT at Admission Predicts Prognosis in Patients with Pneumonia

open access: yesCanadian Respiratory Journal, 2021
Background and Objectives. The concept of sarcopenia has been attracting attention in recent years, but its association with in-hospital mortality of patients with pneumonia is still unclear. Therefore, we investigated the relationship between pectoralis
