Co-existence of the pectoralis quartus and pectoralis intermedius muscles
Morphologie, 2006During the routine dissection studies on the right side of a 56-year-old female cadaver we encountered co-existence of the pectoralis quartus and pectoralis intermedius muscles. The pectoralis quartus originated from the costochondral junction of the fifth and sixth ribs, and then extended laterally under the border of pectoralis major muscle, but it ...

Rupture of the Pectoralis Major Muscle
The American Journal of Sports Medicine, 2004Background Total or near-total rupture of the pectoralis major muscle is a rare injury. Fewer than 200 cases have been reported in literature, many of them in single case reports. There is discrepancy regarding whether this kind of injury should be treated operatively.

Pectoralis muscle wasting during chemotherapy.
Journal of Clinical Oncology, 2020e24069 Background: Chemotherapy is often followed by muscle mass loss which has been associated with frailty. We explored factors associated with change in pectoralis muscle mass after chemotherapy. We hypothesized greater muscle loss with time would be associated with poorer overall survival. Methods: We identified individuals with breast cancer (N =

Unusual pectoralis major muscle: The chondroepitrochlearis
Anatomical Science International, 2008Presented herein is a case of an extremely rare muscle in the pectoral region. It involved an accessory muscular slip originating from the pectoralis major and inserting onto the medial epicondyle of the humerus and the medial intermuscular septum. According to the literature this muscle is defined as chondroepitrochlearis.

Tears of the pectoralis major muscle
The American Journal of Sports Medicine, 1979Nine athletes (men, 22 to 40 years old) who sustained tears of the pectoralis major muscle are described. Four were treated by the authors and five patients' cases were reviewed from records of orthopaedic surgeons for the National Football League. Eight of the nine patients sustained tears from exces sive tension; one was involved in an automobile ...

Pectoralis Major Muscle Injuries: Evaluation and Management
Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, 2005Pectoralis major muscle tears are relatively rare injuries that primarily occur while lifting weights, particularly when doing a bench press. Complete ruptures are most commonly avulsions at or near the humeral insertion. Ruptures at the musculo-tendinous junction and intramuscular tears usually are caused by a direct blow.

Functional orthosis post pectoralis muscle rupture
Journal of Hand Therapy, 2015This author described her success at fabricating a chest compression orthosis for a patient who underwent repair of a pectoralis major muscle rupture. The repair occurred nine months prior to orthotic fabrication, but the patient continued to experience weakness and pain which limited motion.
