PERICLES: A Set of Empirical Rotational Isochrones Modeled on Cool Dwarfs in Open Clusters and Wide Binaries

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Isochrones, equal‐age curves, are widely used in astrophysics to estimate stellar ages. Classical stellar parameters are, however, very limited in their usability for main sequence stars because of their weak age‐dependence. Here, rotation period measurements provide complementary information.

A direct probe of cosmological power spectra of the peculiar velocity field and the gravitational lensing magnification from photometric redshift surveys

open access: yes, 2013
The cosmological peculiar velocity field (deviations from the pure Hubble flow) of matter carries significant information on dark energy, dark matter and the underlying theory of gravity on large scales.

Peculiar Velocities of Nearby Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2006
Over the last five years, enormous progress in accurate distance measurements for nearby galaxies has been attained. The Hubble Space Telescope allows us to estimate distances of about 7–10% accuracy using red giant branch (RGB) up to 8 Mpc. Now we have very accurate distances for more than 200 galaxies within ~6 Mpc.

A multiwavelength view of the galaxy cluster Abell 523 and its peculiar diffuse radio source [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We study the structure of the galaxy cluster Abell 523 (A523) at z=0.104 using new spectroscopic data for 132 galaxies acquired at the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo, new photometric data from the Isaac Newton Telescope, and X-ray and radio data from the ...

Understanding Degradation Mechanisms in Water‐In‐Salt Electrolyte. Part 2: Impact of the Electrochemical Parameters on the Cycling Behavior of LiFePO4 versus TiS2

open access: yesBatteries &Supercaps, EarlyView.
Cycling water‐in‐salt batteries involves complex degradation processes that require multiprobe analysis. Using online electrochemical mass spectrometry (OEMS), postmortem X‐ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) (including hard‐XPS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the degradation mechanisms are examined in composite electrodes (TiS2 and LiFePO4)

The Complex Multiwavelength Morphology of the Peculiar Compact Galaxy Group IC 2431

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present new Chandra X-ray imaging spectroscopy of the compact galaxy group IC 2431, and compare with archival ultraviolet, optical, infrared, and radio images. IC 2431 is a starburst system containing three tidally distorted disk galaxies.

CMB Multipole Expansion in a Frame Dragging-Sustained Milky Way

open access: yesGalaxies
We study the impact on the cosmic microwave background (CMB) landscape of peculiar rotational general relativistic effects. These effects, on galactic scales, do not possess a Newtonian analogue, and therefore could a priori impact CMB analysis.

SDSS superclusters: morphology and galaxy content

open access: yes, 2014
We compare the galaxy populations in superclusters of different morphology in the nearby Universe (180 < d < 270 Mpc) to see whether the inner structure and overall morphology of superclusters are important in shaping galaxy properties in superclusters ...

GASP. XVI. Does cosmic web enhancement turn on star formation in galaxies? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Galaxy filaments are a peculiar environment, and their impact on the galaxy properties is still controversial. Exploiting the data from the GAs Stripping Phenomena in galaxies with MUSE (GASP), we provide the first characterisation of the spatially ...

The peculiar radio galaxy 4C 35.06: a case for recurrent AGN activity? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Using observations obtained with the LOw Fequency ARray (LOFAR), the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT) and archival Very Large Array (VLA) data, we have traced the radio emission to large scales in the complex source 4C 35.06 located in the ...
