A peculiar galaxy system in Hydra
Nature, 1979IN the course of scanning the Palomar Sky Survey, I noticed what appeared to be a large and a small eliptical galaxy interconnected by a long straight bridge which could have been a radial jet from the larger galaxy. Furthermore a comparison between red and blue prints showed the smaller galaxy to be extremely blue, and thus highly unusual.

Studies of galaxies with peculiar nuclei
Astrophysics and Space Science, 1975Photometric, morphological and spectral grounds suggest that the peculiar nuclei regions of NGC 1097, 1672, 2997, 5236, and 7552 are composed basically of a normal nucleus surrounded by several large but otherwise normal (Te∼8000 K,Ne∼1000/cm3) H II regions.

Peculiar Velocities of Nearby Spiral Galaxies
1989We report measurements of peculiar velocities from a sample of over 300 intermediate-type spiral galaxies. The galaxies have been observed at λ21cm at Jodrell Bank and Parkes (Staveley-Smith & Davies 1987,1988; Davies, Staveley-Smith & Murray 1988) and include, as a subset, an updated version of the Sbc data utilized by Hart & Davies (1982).

Surveys of Peculiar Velocities of Galaxies
1999Substantial progress has recently been made in the understanding of the mass distribution in the local Universe through analysis of the all-sky velocity field. The current status of such peculiar velocity surveys is reviewed in this paper. Recent discrepant conclusions for the density of the Universe are discussed.
