Peculiar velocities of galaxies and clusters [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2001
We present a simple model for the shape of the distribution function of galaxy peculiar velocities. We show how both nonlinear and linear theory terms combine to produce a distribution which has an approximately Gaussian core with exponential wings. The model is easily extended to study how the statistic depends on the type of particle used to trace ...

Fluctuating hydrodynamics and mesoscopic effects of spatial correlations in dissipative systems with conserved momentum

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2015
We introduce a model described in terms of a scalar velocity field on a 1D lattice, evolving through collisions that conserve momentum but do not conserve energy.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Correlation Analysis of SFI Peculiar Velocities [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2000
We present results of a statistical analysis of the SFI catalog of peculiar velocities, a recently completed survey of spiral field galaxies with I-band Tully-Fisher distances (Haynes et al. 1999). The velocity field statistic utilized is the velocity correlation function, $ _1(r)$ (Gorski et al. 1989).

Cosmological Inference from within the Peculiar Local Universe

open access: yesUniverse
The existence of ‘peculiar’ velocities due to the formation of cosmic structure marks a point of discord between the real universe and the usually assumed Friedmann–Lemaítre–Robertson–Walker metric, which accomodates only the smooth Hubble expansion on ...

Multi-Scale Microstructure Investigation for a PM2.5 Air-Filter Efficiency Study of Non-Woven Polypropylene

open access: yesQuantum Beam Science, 2019
A N95 face-piece respirator and a 3M air filter composed of non-woven polypropylene filter material were investigated for their multi-scale microstructure and resulting filtration performance. Filtration mechanisms of each system are found and quantified.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

CMB Multipole Expansion in a Frame Dragging-Sustained Milky Way

open access: yesGalaxies
We study the impact on the cosmic microwave background (CMB) landscape of peculiar rotational general relativistic effects. These effects, on galactic scales, do not possess a Newtonian analogue, and therefore could a priori impact CMB analysis.

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...
