NIV-Helmet in Severe Hypoxemic Acute Respiratory Failure

open access: yesCase Reports in Pediatrics, 2015
Noninvasive ventilation (NIV) is a method to be applied in acute respiratory failure, given the possibility of avoiding tracheal intubation and conventional ventilation.

Advanced Materials for Biologics Delivery to Brain Tumors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Material innovation is central to unlocking the therapeutic potential of biologics against many central nervous system diseases, including brain cancer. By engineering carriers with controlled transport, targeting, and release properties, advanced materials can overcome the blood–brain barrier and tumor microenvironment, improving the delivery of ...

Real‐Time Holographic Feedback via Mixed Reality Sensorized Laryngoscope Training System Enhances Pediatric Intubation Training

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
We proposed a Mixed Reality Sensorized Laryngoscope Training System to provide real‐time holographic torque feedback during pediatric endotracheal intubation simulation. Visualization formats are evaluated to reduce tracking error and visual demand.

Research on age-stratified prevention and control strategies for pediatric RSV infection based on disease burden disparities

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases
Introduction Due to the lack of effective antiviral treatments for respiratory syncytial virus, therefore, understanding the age-specific disparities in the burden of RSV infection can help identify targeted interventions.

Sevoflurane improves respiratory mechanics and gas exchange in a case series of infants with severe bronchiolitis‐induced acute respiratory distress syndrome

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2018
Key Clinical Message This report describes the successful use of a new intervention to improve respiratory mechanics and gas exchange in a relatively homogeneous group of infants with severe bronchiolitis‐induced PARDS after failure of conventional ...

Incidence, risk factors and treatment outcomes of drug extravasation in pediatric patients in China

open access: yesThe Turkish Journal of Pediatrics, 2017
Extravasation injury is a common phenomenon in hospitals. Failure to detect and treat extravasation injury can lead to irreversible local injuries, tissue necrosis and malfunction of the affected tissue. Until now, it is largely unknown about incidence,

A Transnasal Endoscope for Robotically Assisted Gastroscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work introduces a 4.25 mm diameter magnetically navigated transnasal endoscope for upper gastrointestinal (GI) screening and intervention. The system enables precise remote steering throughout the upper GI tract and is demonstrated through in vitro and in vivo experiments, including the robotic execution of preprogrammed retroflexions, trans ...

Engineering Approaches to Modify Immunomodulatory Functions of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs): Tissue Regeneration and Clinical Application

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) show promise for treating immune‐related disorders through immunomodulation and tissue regeneration. This review gives a brief overview of current clinical approval of MSC therapies. It also discussed how bioengineering, including genetic modification, biomaterial delivery, extracellular vesicles, and iPSC‐derived MSCs,

GHRHR Deficiency Enhances Retinal Ganglion Cell Survival and Visual Functions in Experimental Glaucoma by Inhibiting Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glaucoma, a major cause of blindness, involves retinal ganglion cell (RGC) degeneration. This study shows growth hormone‐releasing hormone receptor (GHRHR) deficiency preserves RGC survival and restores vision, unlike activation which only aids survival.
