Functional Mapping of Neurodevelopmental Disease Pathways to Key Neurodevelopmental Processes Represented in the Developmental Neurotoxicity In Vitro Testing Battery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Human‐relevant methods are essential for modern chemical safety assessment. This study helps define the capabilities and boundaries of an in vitro testing battery for developmental neurotoxicity by exploring its biological applicability domain. By linking neurodevelopmental disease‐related pathways to key neurodevelopmental processes, the work enhances

Italian pediatric nutrition survey

open access: yesClinical Nutrition ESPEN, 2017
the prevalence of malnutrition in children and its impact on clinical outcomes is underrecognized by clinicians in Italy as well as worldwide. A novel definition of pediatric malnutrition has been recently proposed by a working group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.), based ...

A Dynamic 3D Human Liver Sinusoid Model for Mechanistic Interrogation of Fontan‐Associated Liver Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a perfusable 3D bioengineered liver sinusoid platform that integrates biofabrication, 3D cell culture, controlled hemodynamics, and multiparametric characterization to model Fontan‐associated liver disease. By decoupling pressure and hypoxia effects, the system reveals early mechanobiological and profibrotic responses under ...

The National Clinical Database Risk Calculator and the 5‐Item Modified Frailty Index Predict the Development of Postoperative Delirium After Surgery for Hepatocellular Carcinoma

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that combining the NCD Risk Calculator with the mFI‐5 enables more precise stratification of postoperative delirium risk in patients undergoing surgery for HCC. Patients classified as high risk by the combined model showed a markedly higher incidence of delirium than those in the intermediate‐ and low‐risk groups.

Metabolomic signatures distinguish the impact of formula carbohydrates on disease outcome in a preterm piglet model of NEC

open access: yesMicrobiome, 2018
Background Major risk factors for necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) include premature birth and formula feeding in the context of microbial colonization of the gastrointestinal tract. We previously showed that feeding formula composed of lactose vs.
