Optimizing Rod Configuration Across Lumbar Pedicle Subtraction Osteotomy Site: Evolution of a High-Volume Deformity Practice.

Operative Neurosurgery
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Three-column osteotomy (3CO) is a powerful corrective technique in adult spinal deformity. Unfortunately, they carry high complication rates including mechanical complications (MC) of rod fracture and pseudoarthrosis.

Pedicle subtraction osteotomy for rigid post-tuberculous kyphosis

The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 2006
We studied 15 patients with healed tuberculosis of the spine and a resultant kyphosis. We selected only those with no neurological deficit and performed a wedge resection of the vertebra using a transpedicular approach. The wedge was removed from the apex of the deformity.

Cervical Pedicle Subtraction Osteotomy for Fixed Flexion Deformities

Orthopedics, 2012
Flexion deformities of the cervical spine are multiplanar surgical challenges. This article describes a technical modification during the osteotomy that protects the cervical cord and exiting nerve roots while removing the maximal amount of bone for the osteotomy in the safest fashion.

C7 Pedicle Subtraction Osteotomy (PSO)

2019
The cervicothoracic junction PSO is a safe and effective technique for the management of kyphotic deformity and fixed sagittal imbalance at the cervicothoracic junction (e.g., “chin-on-chest” deformity). It is important to measure cervical alignment parameters on preoperative 36-inch standing radiographs for appropriate surgical planning: C2–C7 ...

Neurologic Complications of Lumbar Pedicle Subtraction Osteotomy

Spine, 2007
Clinical, radiographic, and outcomes assessment focusing on neurologic complications in patients undergoing pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO). Clinical data were collected prospectively. Radiographic analysis was performed retrospectively. To evaluate intraoperative and postoperative neurologic deficits following lumbar PSOs in order to determine risk

A retrospective analysis of 513 patients undergoing pedicle subtraction osteotomy for adult spinal deformity by a single surgical team: are elderly patients at an elevated risk for complications?

Journal of Neurosurgery : Spine
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to assess whether elderly patients (aged ≥ 70 years) face an elevated risk of complications following pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO) for adult spinal deformity (ASD) compared with younger patients (< 70 years) and to ...

Importance of the lumbar paraspinal muscles on the maintenance of global sagittal alignment after lumbar pedicle subtraction osteotomy.

Journal of Neurosurgery : Spine
OBJECTIVE There are limited data about the influence of the lumbar paraspinal muscles on the maintenance of sagittal alignment after pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO) and the risk factors for sagittal realignment failure.

Determining the vertebra for pedicle subtraction osteotomy in surgical correction for ankylosing spondylitis with thoracolumbar kyphosis.

Journal of Neurosurgery : Spine
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to provide a method for determining the apical vertebra for pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO) in corrective surgery for patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) with thoracolumbar kyphosis (TLK).

Key practical points during two-level pedicle subtraction osteotomy in surgical treatment of severe thoracolumbar kyphosis

Journal of Musculoskeletal Surgery and Research
Two-level pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO) is an uncommon spinal procedure mainly used in treating severe round thoracolumbar kyphosis, usually seen in ankylosing spondylitis. In contrast to single-level PSO, two-level osteotomy doubles the correcting
