Inbreeding in populations with incomplete pedigrees

Journal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, 1999
IntroductionInbreeding has detrimental effects on a number of economically important traits. W iggans et al. (1995) estimated inbreeding depression of −29 kg, −1.08 kg and −0.97 kg for each 1% increase of inbreeding for the traits milk, fat and protein yield, respectively, across several dairy cattle breeds.

Efficient Evaluation of Inbreeding Queries on Pedigree Data

19th International Conference on Scientific and Statistical Database Management (SSDBM 2007), 2007
We consider pedigree data structured in the form of a directed acyclic graph, and use an encoding scheme, called NodeCodes, for expediting the evaluation of queries on pedigree graph structures. Inbreeding is the quantitative measure of the genetic relationship between two individuals.

Inbreeding as measured by isonymy and by pedigrees in Kippel, Switzerland

Social Biology, 1976
Abstract The relationship between inbreeding as measured by isonymy and by pedigrees was investigated in Kippel, a village in southern Switzerland. Inbreeding estimated by isonymy was 3.5 times the estimate obtained from pedigree analysis. Our results indicate a higher prevalence of lines traced through males owing to social causes.

Estimation of inbreeding in potato pedigrees

Potato Research, 1997
Coancestry analysis, which measures relationships between genotypes and provides a coefficient for states of loci in their gametes, is described. A technique for obtaining coefficients for states of loci in genotypes is developed, together with a means of adjusting such coefficients to take account of relationships between the earliest recorded ...

An improved method for estimating inbreeding depression in pedigrees

Zoo Biology, 1998
Fitness is expected to decrease with inbreeding in proportion to the amount of deleterious genetic variation present in a population. The effect of inbreeding on survivorship is usually modeled as a negative exponential relationship, and this model has been widely used to estimate the amount of deleterious genetic variation in populations.

Transformation of generalized inbreeding coefficient in components of pedigree

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1966
Abstract Generalization of inbreeding coefficient and coefficient of parentage with an arbitrary number of linked loci is presented. Transformation relations between those generalized quantities are obtained for simple components of pedigree. With those relations we can construct transformation formulae for more complicated pedigrees.

The progress of inbreeding in a pedigree-bred population of barley

Euphytica, 1962
in the pedigree of a group of several intervarietal crosses in barley, individual plant progenies from F4 F5 and F6 generations were studied along with three of their parents for comparing the within-family variances (σ2w) in them using it as a measure of progress towards homozygosity.

Measuring inbreeding and inbreeding depression on pig growth from pedigree or SNP‐derived metrics

Journal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, 2013
SummaryMultilocus homozygosity, measured as the proportion of the autosomal genome in homozygous genotypes or in runs of homozygosity, was compared with the respective pedigree inbreeding coefficients in 64 Iberian pigs genotyped using the Porcine SNP60 Beadchip.

[Inbreeding and the pedigree value of sires].

TSitologiia i genetika, 1994
The influence of bull fathers' pedigree values and the influence of the type of the selection have been studied from the viewpoint of heritability of the selective traits in "father-son-grandfather" generations. The trend of positive influence of inbreeding on bulls' pedigree values has been studied from the viewpoint of milk yield in their daughters.

Inbreeding trends and pedigree analysis of Irish dairy and beef cattle populations

Journal of Animal Science, 2007
The objective of this study was to determine the inbreeding levels and to analyze the pedigree of Irish purebred populations of Charolais, Limousin, Hereford, Angus, and Simmental beef cattle, as well as the Holstein-Friesian dairy breed. Pedigree analyses included quantifying the depth of known pedigree, average generation intervals, effective ...
