Resistance against tree encroachment is driven by richness and identity of herbaceous resident species

open access: yesApplied Vegetation Science, Volume 27, Issue 2, April/June 2024.
Herbaceous plant covers can inhibit tree encroachment in many managed and semi‐natural grasslands, yet identifying the primary influence of seed mixture composition or diversity poses challenges. This study reveals that herbaceous species identity more accurately predicts seed mixture resistance to tree encroachment.

Mapping soil corrosivity potential to exclusion fencing using pedotransfer functions and open‐source soil data

open access: yesSoil Use and Management, Volume 40, Issue 1, January 2024.
Abstract Soil corrosivity is a term used to describe the corroding susceptibility (risk) of metal infrastructure in different soil environments. Soil corrosivity mapping is a crucial step in identifying potentially problematic, high‐maintenance fence lines and can help improve fence longevity by identifying soil environments where the use of more ...

The development of pedometrics

open access: yesGeoderma, 1994
Abstract Pedometrics, essentially the application of probability and statistics to soil, has its origins in agronomy in the early part of this century. For several decades it was a tool for designing experiments and surveys and in advisory work. It burgeoned in the 1960s for predicting soil properties at remote sites, for creating and analysing ...

Regionalization of soil physical input variables for soil hydraulic pedotransfer functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Many studies in soil science provide qualitative or (semi-) quantitative assessments of soil physical properties such as soil texture or percentage of soil skeleton (the >2 mm fraction).
