Pedometrics timeline

Geoderma, 2019
Pedometrics was officially founded in 1990, but the groundwork for the field can be traced back over 100 years earlier. Since its inception there have been 12 conferences, 11 special issues in Geoderma, more than 20 best paper awards, 42 issues of the Pedometron newsletter, and 7 IUSS spin-off working groups.

Scope of Pedometrics

Progress in Soil Science, 2018
Why do we need pedometrics? What is its agenda? Pedometrics addresses certain key soil-related questions from a quantitative point of view. The need for the quantitative approach arises from a general demand for quantitative soil information for improved economic production and environmental management.

The state of the art in pedometrics

Geoderma, 1994
Abstract This paper briefly reviews the state of knowledge of the spatial and temporal variation of soil as discussed in the rejoinder session of the Pedometrics Workshop held in Wageningen, 1–3 September 1992. The paper discusses three aspects, namely theory, applications, and tools, in terms of current understanding and the research topics that we ...

Past, present & future of information technology in pedometrics

Geoderma, 2018
Although pedometric approaches were taken as early as 1925, the post-WWII development of information technology radically transformed the possibilities for applying mathematical methods to soil science. The most significant development is the digital computer and associated developments in computer science.

On digital soil assessment with models and the Pedometrics agenda

Geoderma, 2012
The unique selling point of pedometricians still is close to their cradle: ability to map. Irrespective of the many scientific achievements one can ask if offering mapping ability, allbeit in various contexts, is all a pedometrician can do to bring forward soil science's broader agenda.
