Production of Activated Carbon From Grape Stems After Tannin Extraction: An Integrated Valorization Approach

open access: yesCLEAN – Soil, Air, Water, Volume 53, Issue 12, December 2025.
Grape stems offer dual valorization potential: as a tannin source for coagulant synthesis and as a precursor for activated carbon production. The process utilizes the residual biomass after tannin extraction, and adsorption tests demonstrate that this adsorbent is competitive with others reported in the literature.

Amazonian fish migration as a social–cultural–ecological process

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 12, Page 3297-3312, December 2025.
Abstract In this study, we highlight the rich perspectives and explanations of fish migration held by Indigenous groups across the Amazon. We present the aspects of Indigenous cosmological stories, drawing from our exploratory review of cultural ethnographies and grey literature, as well as the authors' own experiences. We ask, how do Amazonian peoples

Confronting Episodic vs. Continuous Heat Sources in Long‐Lived Hot Orogens: Insights From Petrochronological Studies in the Nova Venecia Complex, Araçuaí Orogen (SE Brazil)

open access: yesJournal of Metamorphic Geology, Volume 43, Issue 9, Page 863-890, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Orogenic belts that sustain elevated temperatures at intermediate crustal depths for tens of millions of years are known as hot orogens. The evolution of these hot orogens is largely influenced by thermal maturation, primarily driven by the distribution of heat‐producing elements (HPEs), such as K, Th and U in the overthickened crust.

Alteration of cleaner wrasse cognition and brain morphology under marine heatwaves

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 8, Page 1894-1905, August 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Heatwaves, exacerbated by global warming, are progressively affecting various ecosystems, with coral reefs among the most susceptible. Within these ecosystems, cleaner wrasses (Labroides dimidiatus) engage in cooperative interactions with client fish by removing ...

Update of the list of qualified presumption of safety (QPS) recommended microbiological agents intentionally added to food or feed as notified to EFSA 22: Suitability of taxonomic units notified to EFSA until March 2025

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract The qualified presumption of safety (QPS) process was developed to assess the safety of microorganisms used in food and feed chains. During the period covered by this Statement, no new information warranted changes to the status of previously recommended QPS taxonomic units.

Integrating local ecological knowledge into systematic conservation planning for seahorse conservation

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 3, June 2025.
Abstract Successful long‐term conservation relies on strategic planning for pragmatic actions to mitigate threats. Prioritizing actions and areas to support conservation goals in the most cost‐effective scenario becomes crucial in resource‐limited environments. However, planning and management can be challenging in data‐limited contexts.
