Deep pelagic food web structure as revealed by in situ feeding observations

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, 2017
Food web linkages, or the feeding relationships between species inhabiting a shared ecosystem, are an ecological lens through which ecosystem structure and function can be assessed, and thus are fundamental to informing sustainable resource management ...

Metachromatic Butterfly Bile Pigments for Multi‐Level Optical Security Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐derived optical security materials are manufactured by embedding butterfly‐based pigments in polymer films. Tunable color and fluorescence responses arise from concentration‐controlled metachromasy, enabling spatially encoded patterns with distinct visible, UV‐active, and spectral signatures.

Emergence in pelagic communities

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2001
Pelagic systems, those based on the open waters of large lakes and seas, provide excellent opportunities for ecological study. This is because, the vastness of the oceans apart, pelagic ecosystems operate on short space and time scales.

Dive behaviour and foraging effort of female Cape fur seals Arctocephalus pusillus pusillus [PDF]

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2019
While marine top predators can play a critical role in ecosystem structure and dynamics through their effects on prey populations, how the predators function in this role is often not well understood.

Use of high resolution sonar for near-turbine fish observations (DIDSON) - We@Sea 2007-002 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this study we investigate small scale distribution of pelagic fish within a windfarm by means of a high resolution sonar (DIDSON, Dual frequency IDentification SONar; Soundmetrics).

The ophiolite-related Mersin Melange, southern Turkey: its role in the tectonic–sedimentary setting of Tethys in the Eastern Mediterranean region [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
WOS: 000222988100001The Mersin Melange underlies the intact Mersin Ophiolite and its metamorphic sole to the south of the Mesozoic Tauride Carbonate Platform in southern Turkey The Melange varies from chaotic melange to broken formation, in which some ...

Pelagic barite precipitation at micromolar ambient sulfate

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Geochemical analyses of sedimentary barites (barium sulfates) in the geological record have yielded fundamental insights into the chemistry of the Archean environment and evolutionary origin of microbial metabolisms.

Label‐Free SERS Fingerprinting of Neuroprotein Conformational Dynamics in Human Saliva

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Galvanic molecular entrapment (GME) is a label‐free method for detecting and quantifying neuroprotein conformational states. This technique enables direct surface binding and in situ hotspot generation around molecules, effectively overcoming challenges related to target localization and mismatched hotspot geometries.

Cold Atmospheric Plasma‐Activated Decellularized Extracellular Matrix Gel as a Tumor‐Infiltrating Immunoactivation Platform for Post‐Surgical Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An injectable cold atmospheric plasma‐activated decellularized tumor extracellular matrix hydrogel is introduced as a post‐surgical immunoactivation platform. The engineered gel attracts residual tumor cells and induces immunogenic cell death, reshaping the tumor microenvironment and eliciting systemic antitumor immunity. In combination with checkpoint
