Ecological indicators for the pelagic zone of the ocean from remote sensing

Remote Sensing of Environment, 2008
It is generally accepted that responsible stewardship of the ocean implies ecosystem-based management. A requirement then arises for ecosystem indicators that can be applied in serial fashion with a view to detection of ecosystem change in response to environmental perturbations such as climate change or overfishing. The status of ecological indicators

Differential success of cyclopoid copepods in the pelagic zone of eutrophic lakes

Journal of Marine Systems, 1998
Numerous investigations have shown that some species of cyclopoid copepods invaded the pelagic zone of lakes during the eutrophication, i.e. that eutrophication favours cyclopoids. Cyclops vicinus, for example, is very common in the pelagic zone of eutrophic lakes; Acanthocyclops robustus and Diacyclops bicuspidatus, however, are less successful.

Pelagic Methane Cycling in the Arabian Sea Oxygen Minimum Zone

Global Biogeochemical Cycles
Abstract The Arabian Sea experiences an intense perennial Oxygen Minimum Zone (OMZ) (150–1,200 m) in its northern and central regions. Earlier measurements during the 1990s (Joint Global Ocean Flux Study, India) revealed methane (CH 4 ) oversaturation in the upper 300–400 m ...
